Marta Ciesla Takes Fifth In 50 Free To Lead USC On Day 2 Of Pac-12s

Trojans' 200 Free Relay takes third, posts NCAA A cut.
Freshman Marta Ciesla made her individual debut at the Pac-12 Championships with a fifth in the 50y free final to lead the USC women's swimming and diving team on the first full day of the meet on Thursday (Feb. 22) in Federal Way, Wash.
The Trojans finished the second day of the championships in sixth with 270 points.
Ciesla qualified for the 50y free final with a morning swim of 22.09 to break her PR, tying for fourth in the prelims. She then lowered her lifetime best by 0.05 in the final, clocking a 22.04 out of lane two in a packed field.
Ciesla also swam on USC's 200y free relay. Troy's quartet of Louise Hansson, Ciesla and sophomores Tatum Wade and Catherine Sanchez posted an NCAA A cut 1:28.43 for third in the final to close the night's racing. Hansson blasted a 21.75 opening leg, 0.12 off Kasey Carlson's school record.
Sophomore Becca Mann, 12th last year, led USC in the 500y free today in 11th, third in the 500y free B final in 4:42.11, a time that would have made the A final. Junior Elizabeth Stinson, the 2016 Pac-12 winner in the race, was fifth in the B heat with a season-best 4:44.21. Junior Maddie Wright dropped a PR 4:42.47 to win the C heat with a strong B cut time, also with a time that would have made the A final. Junior Allie Wooden finished eighth in the C final with 4:49.58.
Wade won the B final of the 200y IM with a season-best 1:56.37, just 0.08 off her PR. Junior Riley Scott turned in a 2:00.11.
On the 1-meter springboard, sophomore Naomi Gowlett led a trio of Trojan divers in 14th (252.95). Junior Tabby Krebs was 19th (229.50) while junior Madi Witt was 21st (225.50).
Tomorrow's prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.
