No. 12 USC Earns 14-3 Win Over Arizona State in Pac-12 Opener

The Women of Troy defeated the Sun Devils under rain at McAlister Field to record a historic first-ever Pac-12 victory
LOS ANGELES – No. 12 USC lacrosse (3-3, 1-0 Pac-12) put on a dominant performance for a 14-3 win over first-year program Arizona State (5-2, 0-1) at McAlister Field on Saturday, March 10. Under rain, the Women of Troy earned the program's first-ever Pac-12 victory.

KEY PLAYERS
- Senior goalie Gussie Johns had six saves and surrendered just two goals in 40 minutes of work. She also picked up five ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- Sophomore midfielder Kerrigan Miller had six draw controls and tied her career best with four caused turnovers. She also scored a goal from free position and dished out an assist.
- Sophomore attacker Izzy McMahon had her second hat trick of the season to lead all scorers.
- Freshman attacker Sophia Donovan scored her first multiple-goal game and finished with two and a caused turnover.
- For Arizona State, Berkeley Bonneau gave up 11 goals but put up 10 saves and picked up four ground balls in the process. Maddy Hunter won six draws and picked up two ground balls. Kerri Clayton scored a goal and had an assist.
- Izzy McMahon recorded her hat trick to give USC a commanding 9-0 lead with 5:20 to play in the first half.
- Arizona State broke its scoreless drought on a goal by Emily Glagolev, but USC scored two more goals to start the running clock and took an 11-1 lead into halftime.
- 10 minutes elapsed before Carley Adams scored for ASU in the second half. Sophomore transfer Hope Anhut scored two goals and Donovan scored in between to push the Women of Troy ahead, 14-2, before the game ended, 14-3, for USC.
- USC remains home and continues Pac-12 play as host No. 19 Colorado (4-2, 1-0 Pac-12) and Oregon (3-1, 1-0) next weekend at McAlister Field. The Trojans and the Buffaloes will be shown live on Pac-12 LA/Mountain at 3 p.m. PT on March 16.
GAME NOTES
- USC played in, and won, its first-ever Pac-12 conference game. It was also the Trojans' first-ever meeting with Arizona State.
- The Women of Troy ended a short two-game skid, the longest since they suffered back-to-back losses to open 2015.
- The Trojans improved to 31-9 all-time at McAlister Field. USC also moved to 35-11 in all-time home games.
- Nine different Women of Troy scored goals against the Sun Devils; the highest total this season.
- Sophomore attacker Izzy McMahon posted her second hat trick as a Trojan; the fourth of her career including two four-goal games recorded while at Army.
- Sophomore midfielder Kerrigan Miller matched her career high with four caused turnovers and led USC with six draw wins.
- USC played every available player on its roster including all three goalies. Gussie Johns had 40:37 between the pipes; sophomore Hannah Upshaw played for 12:40 and freshman Riley Hertford spent 6:43 in the net.
