The two Trojans swept the conference weekly awards after helping USC to overtime wins over Colorado and Oregon
SAN FRANCISCO – USC lacrosse sophomore midfielder Kerrigan Miller (Bayport, N.Y.) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week and senior defender Lydia Sutton (Minnetonka, Minn.) was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Week for the week of March 12-18, the Conference announced on Monday, March 19.
The Trojans swept the weekly awards following thrilling overtime victories over No. 15 Colorado and Oregon and claimed the program's third and fourth honors this season. Gussie Johns was previously chosen for the defensive honor on Feb. 12 and 26.
Miller scored the game-winning goal in USC's win over the Ducks and had the assist on the game-winning goal in the Trojans' victory over the Buffaloes. She finished with two goals and an assist over the weekend but was instrumental in the team's defensive effort as she picked up six ground balls (three in each game), three draw controls, and caused nine turnovers. Miller set a new single-game program record with seven caused turnovers against Colorado.
Sutton matched her own career best with five ground balls against CU and finished the weekend with seven ground balls and three caused turnovers. She was the defensive catalyst in USC's effort around the crease and ignited the Trojans' transition game to help the team to a 41-of-44 clearance success rate in the two games.
The Pac-12 is in its first season as a lacrosse conference. USC previously competed in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) and is the two-time defending league regular-season and tournament champion.
The 13th-ranked Trojans (5-3, 3-0 Pac-12) will play their first conference road games this week as they visit California (4-5, 0-3) on Friday (March 23) for a game at 5 p.m. PT in Berkeley, Calif., and No. 19-ranked Stanford (5-3, 2-1) on Sunday (March 25) in Stanford, Calif., at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on the Pac-12+ platform.
