USC Women's Rowing Closes Out Day Two at the San Diego Crew Classic

The USC women's rowing team concluded the 45th annual San Diego Crew Classic today (March 25) with strong showings in each of the grand finals. The varsity eight placed third, the varsity four came in sixth and the second varsity eight placed third in their respective grand finals. In addition, USC's second varsity four raced and placed fourth overall in their heat.
"The Women of Troy had a great day of grand finals at the San Diego Crew Classic," said head coach Josh Adam. "From the first varsity eight to the second varsity four, we were very proud of all the lessons we executed from practice in the races. We learned that we have some great speed potential, and we are excited for the rest of the season. We really want to thank the San Diego Trojan Club and the Spirit of Troy, for making the Crew Classic feel like a home race!"

The morning began with the varsity four competing in the Women's Collegiate Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup grand final. Coxed by Liv Reiter, the Trojans finished in sixth place with a time of 8:08.725. Lena Schröder powered the stroke, followed by Molly Eberth, Kate Melberg and Cami Hays in the bow.
Up next, the Trojan second varsity eight competed in the Women's Collegiate 2V Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness grand final where they placed third overall with a time of 7:01.999. Guided by coxswain Finn O'Neill, the Women of Troy finished ahead of Washington State, Oklahoma and UCLA. Brook Downes was in the stroke and was followed by Sawyer Chenen, Dori Bene, Sasa Varekova, Katie Hubert, Isabel Fitter, Krete Koovit and Kasia Pilch in the bow.
The last grand final of the day was the Women's Collegiate Varsity Jessop-Whittier Cup Invitational grand final for the USC varsity 8. Ana Moloney coxed the boat and guided the Trojans to a third place overall finish with a time of 6:49.205. The Trojans finished ahead of the University of Victoria, Washington State and UCLA. Junior Athina Angelopoulou stroked for USC and was seated with Ida Gørtz Jacobsen, Chloe Brew, Astrid Steensberg, Nikoline Laidlaw, Marliis Reinkort, Sofia Sobotta and Radka Novotnikova in the bow.
USC also entered the second varsity four in the Women's Collegiate 4+ B Final Only race where they placed fourth overall with a time of 8:13.398 as Chloe Chrysikopoulos coxed the boat. Taylor Richardson powered the stroke, followed by Olivia Passanisi-Boullet, Jordyn Alves and Margaret Cirino in the bow.

USC's next action will take the team up north to Redwood Shore, Calif. where they will compete in the Pac-12 Challenge on March 31 and April 1.
