UC San Diego Men's Volleyball Beats USC In 4 Sets

Trojans return home on Sunday to host Harvard.
Tanner Syftestad had 18 kills to lead the UC San Diego men's volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-14, 18-25, 25-19 win over USC in a non-conference match on Wednesday (March 7) in La Jolla.
USC lost its seventh consecutive match to fall to 4-14 in 2018 (it is Troy's second 7-match losing skid this year). UC San Diego evened its overall mark at 9-9.
Jack Wyett led USC with 11 kills, while Ryan Moss came off the bench to add 10 kills while hitting .476 and Cole Paxson had 10 digs.
Syftestad hit .395 in the match. Teammate Wyatt Harrison added 12 kills (hitting .435), Alec Flowers had 9 kills (hitting .818) and 7 blocks, Ryan Lew had 13 kills and Luke McDonald served 3 aces.
UC San Diego hit .342 to USC's .182 and the Tritons had more blocks (10.0 to 5.5).
In the first set, UCSD got out to a 6-3 lead and the Trojans could never get a lead as the Tritons hit .591. UC San Diego went on a 3-0 run in the second set to open up a 10-7 lead and steadily pulled away while hitting .607. USC scored 4 consecutive points in the third set to build an 11-6 margin and continued to move ahead. UCSD scored back-to-back-to-back points to forge a 17-15 margin in the fourth set, all the lead it needed to close out the match.
USC next returns home to host non-league foe Harvard on Sunday (March 11) at 7 p.m. PT in the Galen Center.
