USC Falls to Wildcats in Series Opener
April 13, 2018 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team had a tough day at Dedeaux Field on Friday night, falling 14-2 to the Arizona Wildcats in the series opener.
Arizona scored in each of the first four innings, breaking things open with a five-run fourth inning. USC falls to 16-13 overall and 5-8 in Pac-12 play, while the Wildcats move to 21-11 overall and 5-5 in conference action.
After falling behind 5-0 early, the Trojans got a run back in the bottom of the third after Brandon Perez tripled and then was brought home on a Lars Nootbaar groundout. The momentum was short-lived, however, as five runs in the top of the fourth put the game out of reach.
Nick Quintana went 3-for-6 with three doubles and four RBI to lead the visiting Wildcats. Three other Arizona players had two-RBI games.
USC got a late RBI groundout from Kaleb Murphy in the ninth inning. Riley Lamb also tossed a scoreless final two relief innings for the Trojans.
