No. 16 USC Men Silence Arizona In Tucson

Brandon Holt wins in singles and doubles to lead the Trojans to a 4-0 Pac-12 road win.
TUCSON, ARIZ. — The No. 16 USC men's tennis team cruised to a shutout win to snag a Pac-12 road win with a 4-0 victory over Arizona today in Tucson. The Trojans outlasted the Wildcats in an extended doubles stint, with Jack Jaede and Laurens Verboven breaking the tie with a tiebreaker victory on court two to get the first point of the day. In singles, USC had Riley Smith and Jake DeVine net wins to set the table for Brandon Holt's clincher at the top spot. The win improves the Trojans to 13-7 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 play.
Doubles action opened with USC notching the first win on #10 Brandon Holt and Riley Smith's 6-2 decision over Arizona's Karpovets/Pollanan at the top spot. Arizona level it on a 6-2 win of its own from Hassey/Malbasic on court three over USC's Thibault Forget and Tanner Smith. The decider would fall on court two, where USC's #12 Jack Jaede and Laurens Verboven came through in the clutch with a 7-4 win in the breaker to top Arizona's Maier/Reguant and get USC the 1-0 advantage in the match.
Singles play unfurled with USC claiming the first sets on five courts. Jake DeVine sped to victory first, drumming up a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six over Carlos Hassey just ahead of Riley Smith's 6-3, 6-4 decision over Trent Botha at the No. 5 slot. That had the Trojans holding a 3-0 lead to set up the clincher. On court one, No. 13 Brandon Holt had himself in position to be the day's hero, and the sophomore would deliver. His 7-5, 6-2 win over Igor Karpovets secured the match for the Trojans, 4-0.
USC now heads over to Tempe to set up for a Sunday (April 15) matchup against No. 33 Arizona State at 2 p.m.
