Sofia Sobotta Invited to USRowing Under 23 Women’s National Team Selection Camp

Trojan senior Sofia Sobotta has been invited to participate in the 2018 USRowing Under 23 Women's National Team Selection Camp this summer.
Rowers who participate in this camp will have the opportunity to be selected to either an Eight or a Four boat that will represent the United States at the 2018 World Rowing Under 23 World Championships this summer in Poland. For the full list of invitees, click here.
Sobotta, who originally walked-on to the USC women's rowing team as a freshman, has truly shown how success is a product of hard work.
"I never really thought I could make it to this level because I didn't row before college," said Sobotta. "My teammates who currently row for various national teams have been rowing their entire lives. I started at USC, and it really began as a hobby. The coolest part of taking on the sport was when I realized that I could reach this level. I saw that I could actually achieve it."
Sobotta, who earned a scholarship during her sophomore season, credits USC for teaching her how to not only be competitive in the sport, but to excel at it.
"USC rowing has taught me everything I know," she said. "I didn't know anything about rowing when I walked on, and the coaching staff made me competitive and pushed me to be where I am today."
Once a walk-on, Sobotta now has the opportunity to compete on the international stage among the world's best rowers. Should Sobotta make the final roster after camp concludes, she will be the first American Trojan to do so.
"It's hard to believe that I could be representing my country," she said.
Becoming a Trojan rower enhanced Sobotta's college experience.
"Before rowing, I didn't feel that I was a part of USC. With rowing, I'm held to a higher standard because people are investing their time and effort into my success. I feel like I am an important part of the Trojan Family."
