May 26, 2018 | Women's Rowing, Features
The No. 13 ranked USC women's rowing team finished in 12th place at the 2018 NCAA Championships at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. on Saturday, May 26. The Women of Troy scored 67 points in the team competition with a second place finish in the Petite Final by the Varsity Eight, a third place finish in the C Final by the Second Varsity Eight and a fifth place finish in the C Final by the Varsity Four.
California won the team title with 130 points and Washington placed second with 128 points. Cal won the I Eight Grand Final, Washington won the II Eights Grand Final and Cal placed first in the Fours Grand Final.
"The Trojan Rowing Family had a challenging set of semifinals and finals today that led to a 12th place team finish," said head coach Josh Adam. "The 1V8 had a phenomenal Petite Final to finish eighth in the country. From start horn to finish beep, the women executed one of the grittiest races I've seen. It was great to see them beat several crews that had bested them earlier in the regatta.
"The 2V8 faced some challenges by having to wait for the start of their race due to another team's equipment breakage. But once they got started, they had a great race that was highlighted by a thrilling sprint.
"The 1V4 had an incredible set of races over the weekend. It was great to watch them mature as a crew at the NCAA Championships. Their final was a hard battle with several crews. Over the course of four 2000 meter races in two days, the Women of Troy showed great courage and tenacity."
