Radka Novotnikova Named CRCA All-American
July 14, 2018 | Women's Rowing, Features
USC women's rowing junior Radka Novotnikova was named to the Collegiate Coaches Association (CRCA) Pocock All-America first team for the first time in her career on Friday, July 13.
Â
Novotnikova is USC's 29th all-time All-America selection and receives the 15th first-team certificate in program history. She was also named a 2018 CRCA All-Conference Selection.
Each year the coaches of the CRCA recognize the outstanding student athletes in each Division. General criteria for the award are that the student-athlete must meet all eligibility rules as defined by her institution, must have rowed at least 75% of the season's races in the varsity boat, must be nominated by her institution and the head coach of the student-athlete's institution must be a member in good standing of the CRCA.
Â
All-American athletes are selected from those athletes already named First-Team All Region. Criteria considered for selection include: boat performance, nomination rank, coach's comments, individual achievements, and 2k erg score. One coxswain is named to each team.
Â
Novotnikova has rowed for the Trojan Varsity Eight, predominately from the bow, for the entire season. She has been an integral part of the Varsity Eight's successes this season.
Â
The communication major from Brno, Czech Republic helped the Trojans extend their undefeated winning streak to 17-straight duals against crosstown rival UCLA. Novotnikova was vital in USC's Varsity Eight placing eighth overall in the nation as well as their 12th place team finish. In addition, she also helped the Varsity Eight crew to an outstanding showing at USC's first appearance at the Clemson Invitational, as well as strong finishes at the Pac-12 Challenge and Pac-12 Championships.
