
USC Women's Rowing Adds Two Assistant Coaches

USC women's rowing head coach Josh Adam has announced the addition of two new staff members. Martina Vlatkovic and Emily Barber will join the Trojan Family and begin to work with the team this fall.

Martina Vlatkovic arrives at Troy after spending three years at Barry University in Miami Shores, Fla. Â From 2017-18, she was an assistant coach and helped to coach the 2018 Barry Varsity Four that won the 2018 Sunshine State Conference title.

"Not only has Martina been a stand out professional coach throughout the interview process, she also has been a joy to get to know as a person," said Adam. "Her experience, rowing knowledge and demeanor make her a great addition to our coaching staff and the Trojan Rowing Family."

From 2015-17, Vlatkovic was a graduate assistant at Barry University and was a member of the staff that coached Barry to a 2016 NCAA DII championship.

Before working at Barry, Vlatkovic was an assistant coach with the Jadran Rojeka Rowing Association in Rijeka, Croatia, her native country. She coached the men's senior 2+ crew that won the gold medal at the 2014 Croatian National Championship Regatta and the men's junior varsity 8+ and junior varsity 2- to silver medals at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.

Vlatkovic competed for the rowing team at Dowling College, a DII school in in Long Island, N. Y. She was named an All-American in 2007. She also rowed for the Croatian National Team from 2000-03.

She has earned three degrees: a bachelor's in business administration from Dowling (2007), a master's in public administration from Kansas (2009) and a master's in movement science from Barry (2017).

Emily Barber joins the staff after coaching at Ohio State from 2017-18. Barber focused on coaching the novice boats as well as the Varsity Four. During the spring of 2018, she helped coach the Buckeyes to a sweep of the Big Ten Conference Championships.

"Emily has been a person I've known for many years, and I was excited to hear that she was pursuing a career in coaching," said Adam. "It has been great to get reacquainted with her and see how much of a professional she has become. Her enthusiasm and desire to help the Trojans get faster will make her an outstanding addition to our staff."

Barber rowed at Indiana where she was named a Second Team All-American in 2017, and helped her team earn selections to the NCAA Championships all four years as a Hoosiers.

She graduated in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in biology and a minor in criminal justice.Â
