Sam Lewis Captains USA Junior National Team To Fourth Place At NORCECA U21 Tourney

USC sophomore middle blocker Sam Lewis captained the USA Volleyball Junior National Team that placed fourth at the 9-team NORCECA U21 Continental Championship in Havana, Cuba, from Aug. 27 to Sept. 1.
The USA won its Group B pool by sweeping Nicaragua and Haiti and beating Canada in 4 sets, but then the USA fell in 4 sets in the semifinals to the Dominican Republic and lost in 4 sets for the bronze medal in a rematch with Canada.
Lewis, who started in the middle, had 35 kills and 9 blocks in the 5 matches. He had 6 kills and 3 blocks against Nicaragua, 6 more kills against Haiti, 10 kills and 3 blocks against Canada in the pool play finale, 7 kills and 2 blocks against the Dominican Republic in the semis and then 6 kills and 1 block in the bronze medal match versus Canada.
The 6-10 Lewis made the 2018 MPSF All-Freshman team while hitting .334 for the Trojans, plus he had a team-best 87 blocks along with 152 kills.
