Frye/Smith Wrap ITA All-American Run In Doubles Quarterfinals

Trojan pair fell to Duke duo in Tulsa today.
TULSA, OKLA. — After an epic comeback victory in yesterday's Round of 16, USC's Bradley Frye and Riley Smith had their momentum upended with a loss in today's doubles quarterfinals out at the Saint Francis Health Systems ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
The sophomore-senior tandem — ranked #28 in the nation — came up against Duke's Sculley/Stachowiak in the quarterfinals this afternoon. Both pairings had worked their way through qualifying to lock in on their main draw efforts. Frye and Smith had kicked down the gates of their main draw run with a smooth upset of the nation's #16 pair from Cal. The next day, Frye/Smith fought off four match points to win in an incredible comeback effort against a Virginia Tech pair last night. Today, against two determined Blue Devils on their own tear in Tulsa, the Trojan pair came up short. A 6-4, 6-4 loss wrapped Frye and Smith's runs at the event. Both had also competed in singles play, working through qualifying for main draw slots as well.
Next up for the USC tennis contingent is competition coming up in Malibu, Calif., for the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, running Oct. 17-20.
