USC has full lineup of singles and doubles entrants for action Oct. 17-20.
MALIBU, CALIF. — The USC men's tennis team will pack the draws at the 2019 ITA Southwest Regional Championships with eyes on deep runs by Trojans at the event to be held in Malibu, Calif., at Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center from Oct. 17-20.
USC has won five singles and five doubles regional titles after Logan Smith collected the 2018 singles crown after beating fellow USC teammate Tanner Smith in the title match last year. USC's last doubles title at the event was back in 2013 — also the last time USC swept the trophies with Yannick Hanfmann's 2013 singles crown and Max de Vroome and Eric Johnson's push to the doubles title.
It's been a successful fall already for the Trojans, who are under the direction of head coach Brett Masi this season. Three Trojans have won singles titles — Brandon Holt (Battle in the Bay), Mor Bulis (Milwaukee Tennis Classic) and Daniel Cukierman (Oracle ITA Masters). ITA All-American Holt and freshman Stefan Dostanic also combined forces to win the doubles title at the Battle in the Bay last month.
USC brings a set of four ranked singles player into the mix in Malibu, including top-10 Trojans #5 Brandon Holt and #8 Daniel Cukierman. Sophomores #58 Bradley Frye and #88 Jake Sands also stand tall with early singles rankings this fall. Seniors Holt and Riley Smith are also due to pair up for the doubles draw. The duo ended last season ranked #14 in the nation.
Full draws have yet to be released for the event, but will be available at https://pepperdinewaves.com/sports/2019/10/15/sports-w-tennis-spec-rel-ncaa-18-tournament-html.aspx
