ITA Southwest Regional Quarterfinals Feature Two All-Trojan Battles

MALIBU, CALIF. — USC senior Rae Lan registered his first singles win as a Trojan today during a dominating day for the USC men's tennis program. A former team manager, Lan has seen his first official competition out at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif. After taking a loss yesterday in the main draw, Lan knocked out his first win with a straight-set decision in today's back draw. That was just one highlight of many for USC today in Malibu, with Trojans going a combined 16-2 across doubles and singles play.

The winning onslaught has secured six Trojans in singles quarterfinal matches after each pinned up two wins today. So, too, are six Trojans joining forces to get three doubles teams into the quarterfinals after a victorious day for senior top seeds Brandon Holt and Riley Smith, freshman-sophomore combo Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye, and No. 2 seeded Israeli tandem Mor Bulis and Daniel Cukierman. Tomorrow's doubles quarterfinals are slated for 10 a.m.

In singles today, Cukierman, Dostanic, Bulis, Frye, Smith and Jake Sands each churned out a pair of wins apiece to roll on through to the quarterfinals. Cukierman and Smith each have non-USC opponents to square off against, while there will be some friendly fire tomorrow between Sands and Dostanic and between Bulis and Fye. All six Trojans are scheduled for quarterfinal bouts to start at 11:15 a.m.
