Ryder Jackson Takes SoCal Intercollegiate Quarterfinal Spot

USC freshman Ryder Jackson will pull double duty in singles and doubles quarterfinal bouts tomorrow (Nov. 9) at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships at Marks Stadium. Jackson notched two singles wins today and paired with sophomore Bradley Frye for a doubles victory to mosey on through to the next rounds.

Jackson opened the day with a three-set win over BYU's Jack Barnett before posting a smooth 6-2 6-2 win over Chapman's Caleb Wilkins to punch a ticket to tomorrow's quarterfinals. He and teammate Frye would pair up to great success as the tourney's top seeds, churning out an 8-3 win in the Round of 16 to advance.

After scoring a spot in the main draw with a strong showing in qualifying, senior Rae Lan fell in today's Round of 32. Frye, meanwhile, dropped UCLA's Connor Rapp 6-3, 6-1 in the Round of 32 to move the #58 sophomore into the Round of 16. There, Frye wound up in an all-out battle with Azusa Pacific's Samuel Sippel and was edged out in a third-set tiebreaker to fall short of the quarterfinals with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (2) loss.

Meanwhile, down in Newport Beach, USC junior Daniel Cukierman battled out two three-setters at the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships. A finalist at last year's event, No. 4 seeded Cukierman posted a three-set comeback win in the Round of 16 over Ohio State's Cannon Kingsley to start the day. In the quarterfinals, though, #8 Cukierman would take a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 loss to #45 Valentin Vacherot of Texas A&M to wrap the Trojans' run in Newport.
