Garvey 69 Leads No. 1 USC In Allstate Sugar Bowl First Round

Sophomore Amelia Garvey fired a 3-under 69 while sophomore Jennifer Chang turned in an even round to lead the No. 1 USC women's golf team during the first round of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate on Sunday (Feb. 17) at the English Turn Golf and Country Club in New Orleans.
The three-time winners held the lead for much of the first round, going as low as 3-under, before finishing the day at a combined 1-over 289, four back of first-place Texas and three behind second-place Duke.
Garvey matched her season-best round this year thanks to a sizzling back 9 that saw her pocket five birdies with just one bogey. She is seeking her fourth straight top 15 finish.
Chang is tied for 13th after her 72. She was 2-under on the front and was still even until late bogeys on 14 and 18.
Sophomore Gabriela Ruffels and freshman Malia Nam are tied for 23rd after 2-over 74 rounds while junior Allisen Corpuz is tied for 46th at 4-over 76.
USC will begin the second round at 8:20 a.m. PT.
