USC Women’s Tennis Prepares for a Four-Match Week

THIS WEEK
The No. 17 ranked USC women's tennis team has a big week of competition as they compete in four matches over the span of six days. The Women of Troy will face San Diego State on Tuesday (Feb. 26) at Marks Stadium at 1 p.m. PT. They will then travel across town to Westwood, Calif. to challenge crosstown rival No. 5 UCLA on Friday (Mar. 1) at 1:30 p.m. PT. This meeting between the Trojans and the Bruins is a non-conference match and will be broadcast on the Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angeles. USC will then return home to Marks Stadium for a doubleheader on Sunday (Mar. 3) when they face Saint Mary's at 10 a.m. PT and Hawai'i at 2 p.m. PT.
ORACLE/ITA RANKINGS UPDATES
In the most recent ITA team rankings (Feb. 20), the Women of Troy broke into the national rankings for the first time this season securing the No. 17 rank. The ITA also released new singles and doubles rankings on Feb. 20, and two Trojans locked down national rankings. Freshman Salma Ewing holds that No. 34 singles rank while junior Becca Weissmann entered the national rankings for the first time in the 2019 season by earning the No. 120 rank. No Trojan pairs are currently ranked in doubles.
GOING STREAKING
Freshman Danielle Willson continues to ride a strong winning streak as she improves to six straight victories in a row. She also remains undefeated in dual matches (5-0). In addition, the Trojan pair of Angela Kulikov/Rianna Valdes are currently riding a three-match winning streak of their own.
SCOUTING SAN DIEGO STATE
The San Diego State Aztecs are 6-4 to begin the 2019 season. They have no nationally ranked singles players or doubles pairs. Most recently, they defeated Hawai'i 5-2 on Feb. 18 and then lost to San Diego on Feb. 23.
SCOUTING UCLA
The No. 5 ranked UCLA Bruins are having a strong start to the season with a 7-1 record. They have two nationally ranked singles players: No. 11 Elysia Bolton and No. 112 Ayan Broomfield. In addition, there are three Bruin pairs nationally ranked on the squad: No. 8 Andrews/Broomfield, No. 14 Bolton/Hart and No. 38 Altick/Miller. Last week, UCLA defeated Saint Mary's 4-0 on Feb. 22 and beat California 4-3 on Feb. 23. Before they face the Trojans on Friday (March 1), UCLA will challenge UC Santa Barbara on Thursday (Feb. 28) at home in Westwood, Calif.
SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S
The Saint Mary's Gaels have a 1-6 overall record and do not have any ranked singles or doubles players on the roster. On Feb. 22, the Gaels lost to UCLA 4-0 and then fell to Long Beach State 4-3 on Feb. 23.
SCOUTING HAWAI'I
The Rainbow Wahine have a 3-3 record for the 2019 season. They have no nationally ranked singles or doubles players on the team. Most recently, the Wahine lost to San Diego State 5-2 on Feb. 18 and then fell to San Diego 4-3 on Feb. 19.
