USC To Compete At Three Meets Around The Southland This Week

Trojans to be at the Mt. SAC Relays, Beach Invitational & Bryan Clay Invitational
The No. 1 USC women's team and the No. 36 men's team will be competing at three meets around the Southland. USC will be at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif. on April 17-18, the Mt. SAC Relays held at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. on April 18-20 and at the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. on April 19-20.
TROJANS AT THE TRITON INVITATIONAL - USC only sent the throws group and select distance runners to the Triton Invitational on April 12-13 in La Jolla, Calif. The Trojans' highlights at the meet were Karlee Freeman winning the women's discus throw with a USC freshman record, Nathan Bultman placing seventh in the men's hammer throw and Matthew Katnik taking ninth in the men's shot put competition.
TOP 20 TROJANS - USC's women have 11 marks that currently rank in the top 20 nationally, while the men's team has five. Current Trojans in the top 20 are: Alyssa Brewer (12 - W-800m), Chanel Brissett (1 - W-100m H), Kyra Constantine (9 - W-400m), Dior Hall (T-18, W-100m H, Matthew Katnik (9 - M-SP), Bailey Lear (10 - W-400m), Mecca McGlaston (T-9 - W-100mH), Marquis Morris (12 - M-110m H), Omotade Ojora (13 - M-110m H), Kaelin Roberts (7 - W-200m), Cameron Samuel (2 - M-400m H), Earnest Sears III (T-15, M-HJ), TeeTee Terry (T-6 - W-100m, T-11 - W-200m), Thomas (16 - W-200m), W -4x100m (1st). Of this group, Morris and Hall are the only seniors and 10 of the marks have been posted by freshmen or sophomores.
WOMEN REACH UNCHARTED HIGH GROUND - The USC women's team has been ranked No. 1 in the country all four weeks of the 2019 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, a program first. The previous most consecutive No. 1 rankings in the USTFCCCA rankings by the USC women's team of two weeks occurred in the 2018 season when it claimed the NCAA team title.
BRISSETT POSTS TOP 3 TIME IN THE WORLD - USC sophomore hurdler Chanel Brissett was named the Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the week of April 1-7 as she won the women's 100m hurdles with a then-world-leading time of 12.87 (+0.1) at the Jim Click Shootout on April 6. Her time is still the tops among NCAA runners and ranks third in the world.
FREEMAN SETS USC FRESHMAN DISCUS RECORD - Freshman Karlee Freeman won the women's discus throw at the Triton Invitational on April 12 with a PR and USC freshman record of 179-5 (54.70m). Her throw moved her to fourth place on USC's all-time women's discus throw list. Her mark ranks third among Pac-12 throwers, 23rd overall nationally and is the top discus throw by a freshman this season.
FABULOUS FRESHMEN - Karlee Freeman isn't the only USC freshman making their mark in the early season. Omotade Ojora also has the top freshman 110m hurdles time, Sam VanDorpe is second in the 800m among freshman, Eric Allen Jr. is seventh among freshmen in the 100m dash and Ayden Owens is fifth in the 110m hurdles. Lanae-Tava Thomas leads the USC freshmen women, ranking fourth in the 200m, seventh in the long jump and sixth in the 100m among freshmen. Bailey Lear is second among freshmen in the 400m and Alyssa Brewer is second in the 800m and Jemima Russell is fourth in the 800m.
WELCOME BACK - The 2019 USC men's roster features four athletes which have competed for USC before, but not during the 2018 outdoor season. Two-time NCAA high jump champion Randall Cunningham (2016 outdoors & 2018 indoors) returns from a broken left leg. Cunningham injured himself on his final attempt at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships after winning the title with his PR clearance of 7-6 (2.29m) which had tied the school indoor record. Hurdler Marquis Morris returns after missing last season with a fractured right clavicle suffered in a fall at the 2018 Trojan Invitational on March 17. Morris ranks 10th on USC's all-time 110m hurdles list with a time of 13.56. Matthew Katnik used the 2018 season as a redshirt year. He has an outdoor shot put PR of 62-9.50/19.14m) which ranks ninth on USC's all-time list. He competed indoors this season and finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 64-7.25/19.69m at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Nicolaus Jakowec took two years off from the track and field team and returned during the indoor season to set the school indoor 3000m record with a time of 8:09.77. In addition, junior Jaydon Logan transfered to USC from Cerritos College last year, but was injured and redshirted. He has a best 400m hurldes time of 52.89.

NEXT MEET: USC-UCLA DUAL MEET - USC will host the 2019 USC-UCLA Dual Meet at Loker Stadium on April 28. The meet begins at 11 a.m. with three field events, with the running portion beginning at noon. The 4x100m relays are set for 1 p.m. with the meet running until 3 p.m.
