Women Win As USC Splits Annual Dual Meet With UCLA

Trojan women have won six straight and 11 of 12 against the Bruins
The Trojan track and field team split the annual USC-UCLA Dual Meet with the women winning 90-69 and the men falling 102-60 at Loker Stadium on the USC campus today (April 28). The USC women won for the sixth consecutive season and for the 11th time in 12 seasons. USC has either won or split the Dual Meet with UCLA 12 of the last 13 seasons. The USC women won 10 events today, while the men's team captured the title in eight events.
Trojans winning events today were: Eric Allen Jr. (M-200m), Alyssa Brewer (W-800m), Chanel Brissett (W-100m H), Anna Cockrell (W-400m H), Alexa Harmon-Thomas (W-HJ), Isaiah Jewett (M-800m), Isabella Marten (W-LJ, W-TJ), Omotade Ojora (M-110m H), Cameron Samuel (M-400m H), Zach Shinnick (M-400m), Brendon Stewart (M-100m), TeeTee Terry (W-100m), Lanae-Tava Thomas (W-200m), M-4x100m, W-4x100m, M-4x400m and the W-4x400m.

- The day opened with the women's javelin throw and Karlee Freeman had a PR of 133-8 (40.74m) to place third and earn a point. USC now trailed 4-14 as UCLA won the hammer throw 6-3 yesterday. Colette Putnam had a best mark of 93-9 (28.59m) to finish sixth in the event.
- Alexa Harmon-Thomas won the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-8.75 (1.75m) and Cassidy Palka placed second with a clearance of 5-7.00 (1.70m). They earned USC eight points and after not entering anyone in the pole vault, trailed 20-12 after four events.
- The women's shot put was next and Freeman placed third with a PR of 52-2 (15.90m). In her first collegiate shot put competition, Freeman moved into ninth place on USC's all-time list and made it two PRs in two events. USC's women now trailed 28-13.
- The first men's event to finish on the day was the men's javelin throw and Ayden Owens placed third with a PR of 173-3 (52.81m). He earned a point and combined with yesterday's hammer throw, USC's men now trailed 14-4 after two events.
- The men were shutout in the long jump and now trailed 23-4. Talin Lewis finished fourth in the long jump with a season-best leap of 22-11.25/6.99m (+0.1), Owens was fifth with a jump of 22-9.25/6.94m (+1.4) and Nathan Patterson was sixth with a jump of 22-2.50/6.77m (+0.0).
- Mitch Libby placed second in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a PR of 9:17.70, just 0.56 second behind the winner. Libby's time moved him to ninth on USC's all-time list in the event. John Dempsey had a time of 10:15.72 to finish fourth. The deficit was now 29-7 for the men's team.
- USC's women's 4x100m relay team of Dior Hall, Angie Annelus, Lanae-Tava Thomas and TeeTee Terry won with a season-best and Dual Meet record time of 42.77. That time moved them to second on USC's all-time list and is the current world leader. After conceding the women's steeplechase, USC's women now trailed 37-18, but had started the comeback.
- The men's 4x100m relay team of Owens, Brendon Stewart, Zach Shinnick and Eric Allen Jr. then won with a season-best time of 39.35 to earn the five points in the event.
- Matthew Katnik finished fourth in the men's shot put with a best mark of 62-5.25 (19.03m). The men's team now trailed 38-12 after six events.
- Chloe Berry placed second in the women's 1500m race with a time of 4:27.95, Kamryn Weber was third with a PR of 4:28.87 and Lauren Maurer was seventh with a time of 4:48.14. With the four points in this event, USC's women now trailed 42-22 after eight events.
- In the men's 1500m race, Nikolaus Jakowec placed sixth with a time of 4:00.52. USC's men trailed 47-12.
- USC's women went 1-4 in the 100m hurdles with Chanel Brissett winning at 12.89 (+0.2), Anna Cockrell in second at 13.04 (+0.2), Mecca McGlaston in third at 13.12 (+0.2) and Hall in fourth at 13.17 (+0.2). The Trojan women now trailed 42-31.
- Omotade Ojora then won the men's 110m hurdles with a collegiate-best time of 13.68 (+1.2) which set the USC freshman record. He also moved into 11th on the NCAA descending order list entering this week's action. Marquis Morris was second with a time of 14.23 (+1.2). USC trailed 47-20.
- Freeman came back to place second in the women's discus throw with a mark of 169-2 (51.56m). It was the third event she scored in and USC now trailed 48-34 after 10 events. Natasha Stamp had a PR of 149-6 (45.57m) to finish fourth in the event.
- Earnest Sears III took second in the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-0.50 (2.15m). He earned three points for USC which now trailed 53-23 after nine events.
- Kyra Constantine took second with a time of 52.38 in the women's 400m dash, while Bailey Lear was third at 52.59 and Kayla Richardson was fourth at 55.80. USC still trailed 53-38 after this event.
- Shinnick then won the men's 400m race with a time of 46.58 and Tyler Rambo was fifth with a time of 50.53. The score was now 57-28 UCLA.
- The women's long jump then finished up and it was a sweep for the Trojans cutting their deficit to 53-47. Isabella Marten won with a PR of 19-11.75/6.09m (+0.8), Margaux Jones was second with a best jump of 19-6.25/5.95m (+0.9) and Thomas was third with a jump of 19-5.25/5.92m (+0.8). Harmon-Thomas had a best jump of 18-00.50/5.50m (-0.6) to finish eighth.
- The USC women swept the 100m dash to take a 56-53 lead after 13 events and never looked back. Terry won with a wind-aided time of 10.99 (+2.1w), followed by Annelus in second at 11.17 (+2.1w), Brissett in third at 11.67 (+2.1w), Hall in fifth at 11.82 (+2.1w) and Jones in sixth at 12.02 (+2.1w). Terry's time is tops on the NCAA descending order list.
- Stewart then won the men's 100m dash with a PR of 10.34 (+1.4). Alexander Barnum had a season-best 100m time of 10.42 (+1.4) to finish fourth, Daniel Robinson had a PR of 10.42 (+1.4) to finish fifth (10.413 to 10.416) and Nick Moore had a time of 10.81 (+1.1) to finish ninth. USC now trailed 61-33.
- Alyssa Brewer won the women's 800m race by edging out her teammate Jemima Russell, 2:05.11 to 2:05.22. It was a season-best time for Russell who caught a cleat and stumbled across the finish line. She also moved into ninth on USC's all-time women's 800m list. Jennifer Daly was fifth with a time of 2:20.20. USC now led 64-54.
- Isaiah Jewett won the men's 800m race with a time of 1:50.25, Matthew Myrtue was third at 1:52.75, David Hulme was fifth at 1:53.71 and Devin Bright was seventh at 1:56.14. USC won the women's and men's 800m race in the same year for the first time since 2006.
- In the men's discus throw, Katnik was fifth with a mark of 162-2 (49.43m) and Nathan Bultman was sixth with the same best mark. Katnik's second throw was the tie-breaker. USC now trailed 73-39 after 13 events.
- Cockrell then ran her first 400m hurdles race of the season and won with a time of 56.44 which currently ranks second among NCAA runners. Breanna Bernard-Joseph had a time of 61.12 to finish third. USC's women opened up the lead to 70-57.
- USC's men then went 1-4 in the 400m hurdles with Cameron Samuel winning with a time of 50.57. Noah Green placed second in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.44, Jaydon Logan was third at 53.93 and Lewis was fourth at 55.37. USC's men now trailed 73-48.
- USC's women next swept the 200m race with Thomas winning with a PR of 22.92 (+0.4). She was followed by Terry with a season-best of 22.95 (+0.4), McGlaston in third at 23.39 (+0.4), Lear in fourth at 23.78 (+0.4) and Constantine in fifth at 24.76 (+0.4). The USC women did not run anyone in the 3000m race, so through 17 events led 79-66.
- Allen Jr. won the men's 200m race with a PR of 20.80 (+0.9) and Robinson was third with a PR of 21.07 (+0.9). Barnum was fifth with season-best time of 21.38 (+1.0), Ojora was sixth with a PR of 21.45 (+1.0), Moore was seventh with a season-best time of 21.55 and Morris was 10th with a time of 21.94 (+1.0). USC now trailed 76-54.
- Owens placed fourth in the men's pole vault with a clearance at 14-4 (4.37m) and Damiano Carrioli cleared 13-10.00 (4.22m) to finish fifth, meaning UCLA swept the event to gain nine points and clinch the team win with an 85-54 lead.
- Jakowec came back to place sixth in the men's 3000m race with a time of 8:38.94. UCLA took 94-54 lead in the men's standings.
- USC's women's 4x400m relay team of Lear, Cockrell, Richardson and Constantine clinched the meet by winning with a time of 3:36.70 to earn five points. USC's lead was now 84-66.
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Samuel, Robinson, Jewett and Shinnick also won with a time of 3:08.25. Jewett was credited with a 45.7 split time. USC trailed 94-59 with just the triple jump to complete.
- The women's triple jump then finished up and Marten won her second event, posting a best leap of 42-2.75/12.87m (-0.1). Harmon-Thomas placed third with a jump of 38-6/11.73m (+0.0) and their six points in the event provided the women with its 90-69 final winning total.
- Patterson earned the USC men their final point by placing third in the triple jump with a best leap of 42-1.50/12.84m (+1.0). Logan took one jump and had a mark of 40-8.75/12.41m (-0.3), good for fourth.
