Constantine named women's most outstanding athlete of the meet
USC won 11 events and Kyra Constantine was named the women's outstanding athlete of the meet at the 2019 Jim Click Shootout held at Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. today (April 6). Constantine won the women's 400m dash, had a strong anchor for the winning 4x400m relay and took fourth in the women's 200m race.
- Sophomore Chanel Brissett led a 1-2-3 finish for USC in the women's 100m hurdles, winning with an NCAA-leading time of 12.87 (+0.1). Junior Mecca McGlaston was second in the 100m hurdles with a time of 13.11 (T-4th on the NCAA list entering today's action) and redshirt senior Dior Hall was third with a time of 13.18 (T-11th on the NCAA list).
- Redshirt senior Marquis Morris then won the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.78 (+0.8) which ranks ninth on the NCAA descending order list entering action today. It was his first race since suffering a season-ending injury in the first meet last season. Freshman Ayden Owens took second with a time of 14.00 (+0.8) and freshman Omotade Ojora took seventh at 15.60 (+0.8).
- The women's 4x100m relay team of Hall, junior Angie Annelus, freshman Lanae-Tava Thomas and sophomore TeeTee Terry cruised to victory with a time of 44.43.
- The junior Constantine won the women's 400m dash with a PR of 52.33 and freshman Bailey Lear was second with a PR of 52.56. Their times rank eighth and ninth respectively on the NCAA descending order list entering this weekend's action.
- Redshirt senior Alexa Harmon-Thomas won the women's high jump with a clearance of 5-8.50 (1.74m). She and two other competitors missed at 5-9.75 (1.77m) which would have tied her PR, but she won the event as she was clean to that height.
- After starting with two fouls in the women's triple jump, redshirt senior Isabella Marten took the lead in the third round with a jump of 41-0.25/12.50m (+0.0), then won it with her fourth-round jump of 42-4.00/12.90m (+0.5).
- Sophomore Cameron Samuel had a PR of 50.15 to win the men's 400m hurdles. His time ranks second on the NCAA list entering this weekend's action. Freshmen Noah Green (53.06) and Talin Lewis (55.84) finished sixth and 12th respectively in their first collegiate 400m hurdles race.
- Thomas won the women's 200m race with a PR of 23.09 (+0.8) which ranks ninth on the NCAA list this season. Hall was second with a time of 23.72 (+0.8) and Constantine was fourth with a time of 23.92 (+0.8).
- Junior Nicolaus Jakowec won the men's 3000m race with a time of 8:32.20.
- The women's 4x400m relay team of Lear, freshman Alyssa Brewer, freshman Jemima Russell and Constantine won with a season-best time of 3:36.93, thanks to a strong anchor leg from Constantine.
- The men's 4x400m relay team of Samuel, freshman Eric Allen Jr., freshman Ayden Owens and junior Isaiah Jewett also won with a season-best time of 3:07.88.
- The men's 4x100m relay team of freshman Daniel Robinson, freshman Brendon Stewart, junior Alexander Barnum and sophomore Earvin da Silva took second with a season-best time of 39.97.
- Redshirt junior Matthew Katnik placed second in the men's shot put with a best mark of 63-9.00 (19.43m).
- Sophomore Earnest Sears III took second in the men's high jump with a clearance of 7-1.50 (2.17m).
- Junior Michael Gonzalez was the last Trojan competing and he took second in the men's pole vault with a person-best of 17-1 (5.21m). Both he and the winner Blake Scott of Oklahoma State cleared that height on their first attempt, but neither could get over the bar at 17-5 (5.31m) and Scott won the competition on misses. Owens cleared a PR of 14-5.50 (4.41m) to finish eighth.
- Junior Chloe Berry placed second in the women's 1500m race with a season-best time of 4:29.28, while Russell was fifth at 4:32.19, junior Kamryn Weber was 10th with a PR of 4:39.15 and Brewer was 15th at 4:49.11.
- Sophomore Joy McArthur had a best mark of 192-6 (58.67m) in the women's hammer throw to place third. Freshman Karlee Freeman had a PR of 143-4 (43.70m) to place 10th.
- Freeman came back to place second in the women's discus throw with a best mark of 154-8 (47.16m). That was her second-round throw and it stood as the leader until the final round.
- Freshman Mitch Libby placed second in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:48.82. It was his first career steeplechase.
- Freshman Sam VanDorpe took third in the men's 800m race with a PR of 1:49.61. Junior Matthew Myrtue placed sixth in the men's 800m race with a time of 1:52.33.
- Thomas placed fourth in the women's long jump with a best leap of 19-11.00/6.07m (-1.8), while senior Margaux Jones took eighth with a best jump of 19-6.00/5.94m (+0.5).
- Allen Jr. placed fourth in the men's 100m dash with a PR of 10.37 (+0.8). Robinson finished 9th in the 100m with a time of 10.64 (+0.8), Barnum was 12th at 10.68 (+0.8) and da Silva was 14th at 10.74 (+0.8).
- Brissett took fifth in the women's 100m dash with a wind-legal PR of 11.65 (+0.7) and Jones was 14th with a time of 12.06 (+1.3).
- Weber had another PR of 2:13.19 to place fifth in the women's 800m race and Berry took ninth with a time of 2:15.75.
- Jakowec placed sixth in the men's 1500m race with a time of 4:00.84 and junior Isaiah Jewett was seventh with a PR of 4:02.21.
- Freshman Breanna Bernard-Joseph made her USC debut in the 400m hurdles and placed seventh with a time of 1:01.21.
- Lewis had fouls in his first three long jump attempts, but was advanced as one of the nine to the finals. He then jumped 21-11.00/6.68m (-0.6), a season-best 22-8.50/6.92m (-0.1) and 22-1.50/6.74m (+0.3) to finish in seventh place.
- Morris had a PR of 21.36 (+1.2) to place ninth in the men's 200m race. Robinson was 11th in the 200m with a time of 21.38 (+0.5), Ojora was 16th with a PR of 21.60 (+1.2), da Silva was 18th at 21.80 (+1.2) and Stewart was 20th at 21.85 (+0.5).
- Redshirt junior Nathan Bultman did not land a legal throw in the men's hammer throw.
