USC Lacrosse Falls to Denver in NCAA First-Round Overtime Game

The Women of Troy complete the 2019 campaign with a 16-4 overall record
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The USC lacrosse team (16-4) dropped a hard-fought 11-10 overtime decision to Denver (15-3) on the U-M Lacrosse Field in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 10.

KEY PLAYERS
- Junior attacker Izzy McMahon scored a pair of goals and had an assist. Both of her goals were part of a 5-1 USC run that netted the Trojans an eight-all tie late in the game.
- Junior attacker Hope Anhut had two assists and scored a goal to go with a caused turnover and a ground ball.
- Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff scored two goals and picked up three ground balls.
- Junior midfielder Kaeli Huff scored a goal and had two assists.
- Senior defender Jackie Gilbert grabbed six draw controls and had two ground balls.
- Freshman midfielder Erin Bakes scored two goals and freshman midfielder Katie Ramsay scored one.
- Junior midfielder Kerrigan Miller recorded five draw controls, caused three turnovers, and picked up three ground balls.
- For the Pioneers, Eliza Radochonski scored a hat trick, which included the second goal of the game, the game-tying goal, and the game-winning goal. Kendra Lanuza, Julia Feiss, and Bea Behrins each scored two goals apiece.
- USC scored the first goal of the game, but the Pioneers responded with a 4-0 run in the next seven minutes to grab the lead. Kelsey Huff scored back-to-back goals to stem the tide and brought the Trojans within a goal with 3:35 to halftime, but Denver put one more on the board to go into the break with a 5-3 lead.
- The Pioneers capitalized on back-to-back turnovers by the Trojans and pushed their lead to four at 7-3 just two minutes into the second half. USC's defense stepped up and the Trojans ripped through a 5-1 run sparked by a goal from McMahon. Bakes put the eight-all tying goal on the board at 13:41, but Denver went in front again on a man-up goal from Feiss.
- The Trojans knotted the score, nine-all, on a goal by sophomore attacker Sophia Donovan at 8:58, and went in front for the first time since early in the game when Ramsay scored with seven minutes to play. Radochonski netted the tying goal at 4:43 left in regulation and both teams came up empty on offensive trips to send the game to overtime.
- Denver won the draw to open the extra period and went on the attack. With just six seconds left on the shot clock, Lanuza found Radochonski cutting to the goal, who scored the game winner.
- USC fell to 4-4 all-time against Denver and had a four-game winning streak against the Pioneers snapped.
- The Trojans played their first game in the state of Michigan.
- The Women of Troy fell to 4-4 all-time in NCAA tournament games and to 12-8 in all-time postseason games.
- Denver was the ninth ranked opponent the Trojans faced this season. USC falls to 20-30 all-time against ranked foes.
