Senior Aiko Leong fired a collegiate career-best 6-under 66 while junior Alyaa Abdulghany pocketed her second straight a 2-under 70 as the No. 1 USC women's golf team moved into second place after 36 holes of the ANNIKA Intercollegiate on Tuesday (Sept. 17) at the Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
USC started the morning tied for fifth but combined for the low round of the day with a 9-under 279, moving to 6-under 570 (291-279) and within six shots of first-place Wake Forest (564=282-282). The Trojans are two ahead of third-place Arkansas and three better than fourth-place Texas.
Leong was flawless today with six birdies without a bogey en route to the low round of the tournament. She birdied 14, 15 and 18 going out today and came back with birdies on 1, 7 and 9.
"I was able to capitalize on my good shots today and make some good putts when I needed to," said Leong, whose previous best at USC was a 71. "Today was one of these days where I could just see the line of my putts and match line and speed really well."
She joined Abdulghany (70-70) in a tie for fourth at 4-under 140, six back of Wake Forest's Rachel Kuehn and two out of a tie for third. Abdulghany went out at 4-under with birdies on 12, 14, 15 and 18 with only a pair of late hiccups on 6 and 8 shading her round.
Junior Jennifer Chang moved into a tie for 13th at 1-under 143 (73-70) after her 2-under second round. She went out with an even first nine with birdies on 13 and 15 and was still even before finishing with birdies on 16 and 18.

USC, a two-time winner of the five-year-old tournament, will try to make it three in the final round Wednesday. The Trojans will join the first-place Demon Deacons and third-place Razorbacks beginning at 9:20 a.m. CT.
