Ohio State Men's Volleyball Sweeps USC On First Day Of Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge

Martin Lallemand had a match-best 16 kills while hitting .448 to lead the Ohio State men's volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-21, 25-22 sweep over USC on Friday (Jan. 24) on the first day of the Big Ten/Pac-12 Challenge in State College, Penn.
Ohio State improved to 6-0 overall, while USC dropped its fifth straight match to fall to 1-5.
In the day's next match, No. 10 Penn State hosts No. 6 UCLA.
Then on Sunday (Jan. 26), the teams switch opponents, with the Trojans facing Penn State at 4 p.m. ET following the UCLA-Ohio State match at 1 p.m. ET.
Billy Fauntleroy led USC with 7 kills while hitting .357 and he served 2 aces. Sam Lewis (hitting .556) and Vecas Lewis (hitting .400) each added 6 kills, with Lewis getting 3 blocks. Kyle Gear had 7 digs and Chris Hall had 6 digs.
Reese Devilbiss added 11 kills and 8 digs for Ohio State, while Ethan Talley had 3 blocks. Lallemand also had 3 blocks with 2 aces.
Ohio State hit .315 to USC's .293 and the Buckeyes had more digs (33 to 24). But the Trojans outblocked OSU, 7.0 to 5.0.
Ohio State moved out to an early 8-4 lead in the first set and extended it to 12-6 before USC closed to within 14-12, but then the Buckeyes scored 6 of the next 9 points to restore order. The second set stayed tight until Ohio State went on a 3-point run to build a 20-17 edge, all the cushion it needed. USC fought back from a 15-12 deficit in the third set to tie it at 16-16 before Ohio State scored back-to-back points to build a 20-18 lead and the Buckeyes held off the Trojans the rest of the way despite Troy's .483 hitting percentage in the set.
