USC Women’s Tennis Prepares for 2020 Home Opener

THIS WEEK
The No. 19 ranked USC women's tennis team returns to Los Angeles for its 2020 season home opener at Marks Stadium. The Trojans challenge Saint Mary's on Friday (Jan. 31) at 3 p.m. PT, and return Saturday (Feb. 1) for a doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara at 12 p.m. PT and Long Beach State at 3:30 p.m. PT.
ORACLE/ITA RANKINGS UPDATES
In the most recent Oracle/ITA Rankings (Jan. 29), the Trojans are the No. 19 ranked team in the nation. USC boasts three nationally ranked singles players and one ranked doubles pair. Senior Angela Kulikov is Troy's highest ranked player at No. 60, with senior Sydney Van Alphen holding the No. 68 position and sophomore Danielle Willson close behind at No 70. The USC duo of Angela Kulikov/Danielle Willson is ranked No. 29.
SCOUTING SAINT MARY'S
The Saint Mary's Gaels have not yet played a dual match this season and will play their first against the Women of Troy. As a team, they are not nationally ranked, but they do have the No. 15 ranked singles player in the nation, Mariia Kozyreva. Kozyreva was named to the All-WCC Preseason team. In 2019, she was named to the First Team All-WCC for both singles and doubles. The Women of Troy are 7-0 all-time against the Gaels.
SCOUTING UC SANTA BARBARA
The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos are 1-2 overall in the 2020 season. Most recently, they lost 4-1 to No. 9 Florida State on Jan. 25 and lost 4-0 to Miami on Jan. 26. The Gauchos are not nationally ranked as a team, nor do they have any ranked singles or doubles players. The Women of Troy are 25-2 all-time against the Gauchos.
SCOUTING LONG BEACH STATE
Just like the Gaels, this is Long Beach State's first dual match of the season. While the team is not nationally ranked, singles player Sadaf Sadeghvaziri is ranked No. 106. The Women of Troy are 35-0 all-time against the Beach.
