No. 4 USC Sweeps College of Charleston to Open New Era

The Women of Troy took out the Cougars without dropping a set to start the season with a 5-0 victory
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The fourth-ranked USC beach volleyball team (1-0) swept College of Charleston (0-1) on Coligny Beach sand at the Hilton Head Island Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 29. The win is not only the first of the season, but the first of an era for first-year Trojan head coach Dain Blanton.
The Women of Troy didn't drop a set across all five courts and earned a straight-set win in their exhibition match to get the season off to a smooth start. Five of USC's six pairs logged their first official collegiate contests together.
Only the duo of sophomore Mollie Ebertin and junior Maja Kaiser had had previous experience together. The tandem defeated Logan Manusky and Molly Russell, 21-11, 21-16, at the fifth position to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead in the dual and improved to 7-4 all-time.
Played in two waves (or flights), USC led 2-0 with the top three positions to be played. The clinching point came from the freshman twin pair of Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse. The sisters put up a 21-9, 2-17 result to deliver the victory. Each of the Trojans' top pairs fought back from first-set deficits to claim wins and then went on to complete straight-set wins for the sweep.
USC gets back on sand for a 1:30 p.m. PT (4:30 p.m. ET) dual against tournament host No. 17 South Carolina later today. Live scores are available via links at USCTrojans.com.
