USC Men's Volleyball Defeats Non-Conference Foe Lindenwood

Adam Flood had 11 kills and Liam Schroeder added 10 kills to lead the USC men's volleyball team to a 25-22, 25-23, 14-25, 25-22 non-conference victory over Lindenwood on Saturday (March 7) in USC's Galen Center.
USC improved to 5-13 overall while getting its first 2-match winning streak of 2020, having defeating Saint Francis on Thursday (March 5). Lindenwood of the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association fell to 11-8.
Schroeder, in just his second start of the season, hit .769 with no errors on 13 attempts. Teammate Brandon Browning added 9 kills and 5 digs, while Cole Paxson had 7 digs.
For Lindenwood, Alex Pappas had 13 kills while hitting .611, Sam Schindler had 10 kills (hitting .562) and 10 blocks, A.J. Lewis had 8 kills and Kyle Deutschmann had 10 digs.
USC won despite being outhit by Lindenwood, .299 to .227. The Lions also had more blocks, 12.0 to 2.0.
The first set stayed tight until USC scored back-to-back points to open a 20-18 lead and the Trojans were able to hold onto that margin the rest of the way. It was more of the same even play in the second set until the Trojans scored the set's final 2 points despite the Lions putting up 4.0 blocks in the set. Lindenwood used an early 4-point run in the third set to build a 7-3 lead and extended it to 13-6 and then 20-10 to easily capture the set while hitting .500 and getting 4.0 more blocks. USC went on an early 6-0 run to move ahead 7-4 in the fourth set, the Lions caught up at 9-9 before Troy scored 6 of the next 8 points for a 15-11 lead, then Lindenwood knotted it at 18-18 before USC scored 3 straight to restore order and sideout the rest of the match.
USC now returns to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play when it visits No. 14 Concordia on Wednesday (March 11).
