USC Beach Volleyball Sweeps Stanford to Move Ahead at Pac-12 Championship

The Women of Troy claimed their 12th straight dual victory to advance to the winner’s bracket final
LOS ANGELES – The top-seeded and No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (25-2) claimed a 3-0 win over fourth-seeded No. 9-ranked Stanford (21-10) in the winner's semifinal of the Pac-12 Championship at Mapes Beach on Friday, April 30.

The Women of Troy advance into the winner's bracket final to face No. 2-seeded and No. 2-ranked UCLA (26-3) in the winner's bracket final at 9 a.m. PT on Saturday (May 1). The winner of that match will advance directly to the championship dual set for 4 p.m.

USC improved to 8-0 all-time against Stanford and to 17-3 in duals at the Pac-12 Championship with a 70-13 mark in individual matches. The Trojans also go to 69-13 all-time against Pac-12 opponents.

The first point was scored by the Trojans' sophomore duo of Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse from the No. 5 position. The sisters were down, 8-3, in the first set, but roared to life to take a 21-12 win before closing out a 23-21 victory in set two over Maddie Dailey and Jordan McKinney. The Nourses improved to 25-1 on the season and extended to a seven-match winning streak.

USC went on top, 2-0, with a three-set win at court three where senior Haley Hallgren and graduate Hailey Harward got a 21-13, 19-21, 15-11 win over Maddi Kriz and Kate Reilly to improve to 7-2 this season.

The clinching point was claimed by All-American junior Tina Graudina and freshman Megan Kraft at the top court where the Trojans went 21-16, 21-7 for a win over Xolani Hodel and Sunny Villapando to improve to 9-1 on the year.

At court two, graduate Julia Scoles and senior Sammy Slater had a 19-15 lead over Charlie Ekstrom and Maya Harvey in the first set when play was suspended. On court four, graduate Joy Dennis and freshman Delaynie Maple trailed by a point, 13-12, to Emmy Sharp and Amelia Smith at the time of suspension.
