No. 17 USC Women’s Tennis Defeats LMU, USF To Open 2022 Season

The No. 17 USC women's tennis team notched a 2-0 start to 2022 dual action with back-to-back shutout wins today (Jan. 22) at Marks Stadium. In all, USC topped Loyola Marymount and USF with 4-0 scorelines.
In doubles, the No. 23 pair of Ewing/Han defeated LMU's No. 18 Tcherkes-Zade/Rutkowska with a 6-2 upset on court one. On court three, USC's Willson/Morra beat Lion's pair of Rogozinska-Dzik/Shirokova 6-3 to successfully claim the doubles point.
USC led the match 1-0 entering singles play where No. 12 Salma Ewing extended the Trojans' lead with her 6-3, 6-1 victory over LMU's Eva Marie Voracek on court two. Redshirt freshman Snow Han officially made her first mark as a Trojan by beating LMU's No. 123 Wiktoria Rutkowska 6-1, 6-4 on court three. Also making her USC debut today was freshman Grace Piper who defeated Ulyana Shirokova (LMU) 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match for Troy on court five.
The Trojans tweaked their doubles lineup a bit in the afternoon versus the USF Dons, but the results remained the same: two quick doubles wins, via No. 26 Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper (6-1) on court two and Snow Han and Makenna Koenig on court three. Han and Koenig defeated USF's Mushika/Qui 6-3 to notch the doubles point.
USC's No. 39 Han clinched the match for The Women of Troy in singles play, thanks to a 6-3, 6-1 win on court two. No. 1 Cayetano (6-3, 6-2) and Grace Piper (6-0, 6-4) provided the two other singles points to put a stamp on the 4-0 win.
The Women of Troy now turn to another dual-match clash on Sunday (Jan. 23), when USC welcomes Saint Mary's at 11 a.m. at Marks Stadium.
