No. 10 USC Women’s Tennis Defeats Wisconsin 4-3 at ITA National Team Indoors

The No. 10 USC Women's Tennis team put together a come from behind victory to defeat the Badgers 4-3 on Saturday (Feb. 12) while competing at the ITA National Team Indoors in Madison, Wisconsin.
Wisconsin captured the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. In the No. 3 match, the Badgers duo of Johnson/Markham defeated Danielle Willson and Snow Han 6-3. Then on court 2, the Wisconsin duo of Cataldi/Semenovski beat USC's Salma Ewing and Mckenna Koenig 7-4. The No. 1 match featuring USC's No. 35-ranked Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper was suspended with the Trojans down 5-6.
The Badgers carried the momentum into singles play, as they swiftly extended their lead to 2-0 after a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory from Ava Markham over No. 18 Salma Ewing.
Sophomore Mckenna Koenig got the Trojans on the board, defeating Wisconsin's Taylor Cataldi with a 6-4, 7-5 decision on six singles.
With the Trojans down by one, junior Eryn Cayetano stepped up to the plate on court one, beating No. 86 Xinyu Cai 6-3, 7-6(3) to even the score.
The Badgers then answered as Denise Stoica defeated Trojan Grace Piper 7-6(3), 7-5 on court four to put the badgers up by one. The score was 3-2 Wisconsin.
Redshirt sophomore No. 52 Snow Han tied things up as she took down Alina Mukhortova (WISC) 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 on court three. USC and Wisconsin were tied at 3-3.
The match was decided on court five where senior Danielle Willson defeated Wisconsin's Charmaine Seah 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-1 to seal the come from behind victory for USC.
Next up the Trojans will face No. 8 Texas A&M at 4:30 p.m. PT.
