No. 10 USC Women’s Tennis Suffers 4-0 Loss to No. 2 Sooners

The No. 10 USC women's tennis team fell for the second time in as many days with a 4-0 loss to the No. 2 Sooners Sunday afternoon in Norman, Oklahoma. The Trojans never got on track as they began the day dropping the doubles point and then proceeded to lose three consecutive singles matches. The Trojans fall to 6-4 with the loss while the Sooners move to 12-1 with the victory.
The Sooners got to work early in doubles, with No. 11 I. Corley/ C. Corley (OU) downing USC's No. 5 Salma Ewing/Snow Han 6-1 on the center court. OU quickly followed it up with another 6-1 decision, this time on court two as the No. 47 ranked Sleeth/Pisareva defeated No. 40 Eryn Cayetano/Grace Piper (USC) to claim the doubles point. Action on court three was suspended with Willson/Morra up 4-2.
Entering singles action with the point advantage, Oklahoma quickly stretched their lead and USC was never able to catch up. Grace Piper wasn't able to get by Alexandra Pisareva, losing 6-1, 6-0 on court five. Next, senior Danielle Willson was taken down in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot.
Down 3-0 early, the day ended on a sour note as No. 1 Eryn Cayetano took a 6-1, 6-4 loss to No. 15 Layne Sleeth on court one.
With the match clenched, play was suspended on courts two, three and four.
The Women of Troy (6-4) now return home for the week as they'll face rival No. 22 UCLA in Westwood on Friday (Feb. 25) at 1:30 p.m. PT. The following day they'll return to Marks Stadium for the first time in over a month to host UCSB at 12 p.m. PT.
