No. 20 USC Women’s Tennis Set for Three-Match Weekend at Home

THIS WEEK
No. 20 USC continues 2022 action this weekend at home with three matches at Marks Stadium. The Trojans (7-7, 1-1) will be taking on Pac-12 rival Arizona State on Friday (March 11) at 1:30 p.m before a busy double-header Saturday (March 12) featuring duals against Arizona (12 p.m) and Hawaii Pacific (4 p.m.)
ORACLE/ITA RANKINGS UPDATES
In the most recent ITA team rankings (March 9), the Women of Troy bumped up one position, to No. 20 after going 1-1 this past weekend in Pac-12 play.
The ITA released new singles and doubles rankings on March 9 and three Trojans hold national ranks. No. 6 Eryn Cayetano, No. 29 Salma Ewing and No. 60 Snow Han. The Trojans also have two ranked duos - No. 29 Salma Ewing / Snow Han and No. 49 Eryn Cayetano/Grace Piper.

SCOUTING ARIZONA STATE
The Sun Devils (8-3, 1-1) are ranked 30th in the latest team rankings by the ITA, a dip from their No. 17 listing a week ago. Senior Domenic Turkovic and freshman Patricija Spaka have teamed up to form a one-two punch on Court 1 in doubles play in the early going of 2022. The pair has continued to earn national recognition, ranked in the latest ITA polls as the nation's No. 56 pair.
Sun Devils' head coach Shelia McInerney is a USC alumna (1980). The four-time All-American also was a four-time Trojan Spirit Award winner who helped the Trojans to three national championships. She was the national collegiate doubles runner-up three times and a singles semifinalist in 1977.
SCOUTING ARIZONA
The No. 51 Wildcats are 10-4 on the season, and 1-1 in Pac-12 play. USC holds a 28-10 all-time record against Arizona, with the Wildcats last win over the Trojans coming in the 90's. The Cats do not currently have any nationally ranked singles or duos.
SCOUTING HAWAII PACIFIC
The No. 7 (DII rankings) Hawai'i Pacific University women returned to playing this week and shut out Fresno Pacific 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Sunnyvale Tennis Center. The Sharks boast one ranked singles player (DII rankings) – No. 16 Shaline Pipa. HPU is 6-3 overall on the season.
LAST SEASON
In 2021, the Women of Troy recorded a 13-11 record and went 5-5 in Pac-12 Conference play. After being selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, the Trojans upset both Oklahoma and Florida in the First and Second Rounds to advance to the Round of 16 where they fell to North Carolina State. Junior Salma Ewing earned placement in the NCAA Singles Tournament where she fell in the First Round. The Trojans finished No. 27 in the country with three singles players nationally ranked.
