No. 11 Women of Troy Head To Atlanta for NCAA Swim and Dive Championships

With a squad of twelve swimmers and four divers, the USC women's swimming and diving squad is set for the 2022 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, Wednesday through Saturday (March 16-19) in Atlanta, Georgia.

The championships will be held at the McAuley Aquatic Center with live championship coverage airing on ESPN3 for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. ESPNU will also air a two-hour show at 7 p.m. ET, Wednesday, March 30.

CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE

USC, under interim head coach Lea Maurer, is one of only nine schools to have won an NCAA swimming and diving team title (1997 – under then head coach Mark Schubert. The Trojans have finished in the top 9 in eight of the past ten years (excluding 2020 when competition was canceled due to Coronavirus concerns).
This year marks the 25th anniversary of USC's 1997 National Championship swim and dive team. USC, behind Olympians Kristine Quance Julian and Lindsay (Benko) Mintenko as well as upper classmen like Hope (Gittings) Wells, Sarah Maggio and Jean Ellis Todisco, upset Stanford for the program first and only NCAA championship. The Women of Troy, under then-fourth-year head coach Mark Schubert, won the 1997 championship with 406 points, edging the Catherine Fox-led Stanford Cardinal by 11. SMU, behind three-time 1997 NCAA winner Martina Moravcova, was third (353.5), Arizona, led by NCAA champ Trina Jackson, was fourth (351.5) and Georgia (312) rounded out the top five. Arizona and Georgia later became NCAA champions.
USC has finished third three times at the NCAAs, fourth four times and fifth three times among 30 top 10 finishes in 39 appearances since the first NCAA Championships in 1982 (including top 10s in 23 of the past 27 years). Troy owns 59 combined individual AIAW and NCAA titles (including two relays). Among those, 45 are NCAA titles, seventh most in the country. USC has 338 All-American honors in program history and at least one All-American each season since 1975 (when USC's women's records begin).
TROJANS AT THE NCAAs
Of the Trojans traveling to Atlanta, USC returns five athletes that have NCAA Championship experience, as Isabelle Odgers, Laticia Transom, Kaitlyn Dobler, Calypso Sheridan and Aela Janvier will represent the Women of Troy at the national competition. Trojans Anicka Delgado, Caroline Pennington and Hanna Henderson, along with relay swimmers Adair Sand, Genevieve Sasseville and Marlene Kahler will also compete at the upcoming championships.
USC enters this week's meet with eight swims – four individual and four relays - that rank among the top 25 in the country according to the pre-NCAA meet psych sheet. Freshman Kaitlyn Dobler leads the way for the Trojans with two times in the top 8 (100 breast, 200 breast), as she makes her NCAA Championships debut.
The Women of Troy also boast four relays in the top 15 – 400y medley relay (9th, 3:29.07), 400y free relay (10th, 3:11.82), 200y medley relay (11th, 1:35.32) and 200y free relay (14th, 1:28.00).

USC won four races and had 27 A-final appearances en route to a third-place team finish at the 2022 Pac-12 Championships. Sophomore All-American Dobler defended her 2021 100y breaststroke title, breaking the USC, Pac-12 and Pac-12 Championship record to win back-to-back 100y breast titles. Senior Isabelle Odgers picked up her first conference title, leading a Trojan sweep in the 200y breaststroke. Trojan Anicka Delgado tied for first in the 50y free to claim the splash and dash Pac-12 title. Freshman distance specialist Caroline Pennington claimed the 1650y to win her first conference crown and PR by more than a minute.
The Women of Troy also reached the podium four times in relay competition, finishing in the top three in every relay except the 800y free relay.
