No. 17 USC Women's Tennis Falls to Stanford, 5-2 in Palo Alto

The No. 17 USC women's tennis fell to No. 19 Stanford, 5-2, on Friday (March 25) in Palo Alto, Calif. With the loss, the Women of Troy fall to 10-9 and 3-2 in Pac-12 play.
Stanford kicked off the day with a doubles win on court two as Naomi Cheong/Snow Han fell 6-3 to the Cardinal duo of Xu/Yepifanova. They swiftly followed it up with a 6-4 decision on center court as No. 7 Blake/Ma beat USC's No. 64 Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper to haul in the doubles point. Match play on court three was suspended with Salma Ewing/Sloane Morra up 5-4 over Stanford's Choy/Madurawe.
Moving into singles action down by one point, USC had work to do. On court five, No. 87 Valencia Xu (STAN) defeated Grace Piper 6-4, 6-1 to put the Cardinal up by two. Next, Angelica Blake (STAN) downed Trojan No. 77 Snow Han 6-4, 6-3 on court three. Trojan #78 Naomi Cheong followed up the Stanford win on court three with a victory on court four, defeating India Houghton 6-2,6-3. The match was clinched on court six as Sara Choy (STAN) downed USC senior Danielle Willson 6-2, 6-4 to give the Cardinal the necessary four points.
Although the match was clinched, play on courts two and one continued. Eryn Cayetano, in true Fight On fashion, battled to defeat No. 18 Alexandra Yepifanova (STAN) 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(8) on court two. The final decision of the day came from center court as Stanford's No. 13 Connie Ma downed Trojan No. 41 Salma Ewing 6-4, 7-6(4) to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Cardinal.
Next up, the Trojans will travel just a short drive over to Berkeley, Calif., to take on No. 14 Cal tomorrow at 12 PM PT.
