No. 17 USC Women’s Tennis Falls Short in 4-3 Loss To No. 14 Cal

The evening began with No. 14 Cal claiming the doubles point after victories on courts three and one. The start of doubles play saw Cal's Richardson and Rosenqvist swiftly defeat USC's Sloane Morra and Salma Ewing 6-0 on court three while Golden Bears No. 29 Alsola/Wiersholm defeated No. 64 Eryn Cayetano and Grace Piper 6-3 just a little while later on center court. With the doubles point secured, match play on court two was suspended with Naomi Cheong and Snow Han up 4-3 over No. 35 Giavara/Moeller.
With a one point deficit to overcome, USC got to work in singles play but stalled out after one victory. No. 41 Salma Ewing struck first in singles play, downing Cal's No. 101 Giavara 6-2, 6-3 on center court to give the Trojans their first point of the day and tie up the score at 1-1. Golden Bear Rosenqvist then defeated No. 78 Naomi Cheong 6-2, 6-3 to reclaim the lead for Cal.
A little while later, Cal's #122 Katja Wiersholm beat USC's No. 77 Snow Han 6-4, 6-3 on court three to give the Bears a 3-1 lead. The match was then decided on court five as Hannah Viller Moeller (CAL) beat Grace Piper 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the win.
Match play continued with USC senior Danielle Willson beating Cal's Erin Richardson 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 on court six. Finally, Trojan #6 Eryn Cayetano beat Golden Bear Jessica Alsola 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to wrap up the match against No. 14 Cal. The match ended with Cal winning four points to USC's three points.
