No. 3 USC Men’s Water Polo Falls 15-13 In Road Match At No. 5 Pacific
September 16, 2022 | Men's Water Polo
Jake Ehrhardt leads the Trojan scoring with three goals to take over as USC’s No. 20 all-time career scorer.
STOCKTON, CALIF. — The No. 3 USC men's water polo team took a road loss to No. 5 Pacific today, falling behind and unable to make up ground in a 15-13 decision in Stockton, Calif. USC goes to 6-2 overall with the defeat.
The game opened as a back-and-forth battle as USC answered early Pacific goals with strikes from Jake Ehrhardt, Carson Kranz and Andrej Grgurevic. The Tigers scored back-to-back goals to create some space in the first half, but USC fired back when Massimo Di Martire rattled in two Trojan goals to level it. Another Tiger score gave the hosts a lift to 6-5 by halftime, and USC would get no closer from there. Pacific opened up a three-goal lead in the third before Kranz knocked in an other to edge USC within two, entering the fourth down 10-8. The fireworks continued in the final stretch, and USC reeled in Pacific to 13-12 in the final minute on Ehrhardt's third of the day, only to see the Tigers find answers to that tally as well as another from Joshua Waldoch with 25 ticks to go, scoring on an open net before the final buzzer to wrap a 15-13 final Pacific win.
NEXT:
USC now heads to Davis, Calif., for two games on Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Aggie Roundup, opening at 9:15 a.m. against host No. 6 UC Davis and then taking on No. 20 Navy at 1 p.m.
NOTABLE:
- With three goals today, Jake Ehrhardt took sole possession of No. 20 all-time at USC with 137 career goals
- With a goal today, Marcus Longton has now scored in all eight USC games this season.
