Freshman OH Dillon Klein led the Trojans with 19.0 points against the Matadors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – The 10th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (6-2) claimed a four-set win (25-22, 19-25, 25-16, 25-17) over CSUN (4-3) at the Matadome (Premier America Credit Union Arena) on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

KEY PLAYERS

Fr. OH Dillon Klein reached double-digit kills in his sixth straight match and led all scorers with 19.0 points on 16 kills (3e, 28att) and .464 hitting. He also had five digs, four blocks, and a service ace.
Jr. OPP Simon Gallas had eight kills (2e, 15att) on .400 hitting and led the team with nine digs to go with four blocks.
Gr. OH Kevin Kobrine scored eight kills and added two blocks, two digs, and a team-high three service aces.
Jr. MB Kyle Paulson had a team and career-high seven blocks and added two kills and a service ace.
Jr. S Nate Tennant dished out 31 assists to go with three digs, two kills, a block, and a service ace.
For the Matadors, Kyle Hobus led with 15 kills on .263 hitting. Griffin Walters had 10 kills (3e, 20att, .350). Donovan Constable put up 31 assists with four kills, seven digs, and two blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Klein collected five of his kills in the first set and the Trojans put up four blocks and three service aces to earn a 25-22 win. The Matadors had 14 kills and hit .357 but committed nine service errors in the opening frame.
USC's own errors left the Trojans on the short end of a 25-19 loss in set two. CSUN only had eight kills and hit .160, but the Trojans left the door open with a 10-kill, 10-error set.
After seven ties, the Trojans ran away with the third and claimed a 25-16 win to go on top, 2-1. Gallas had four kills, Kobrine added three more, and Klein had two as USC hit .529 (11k, 2e, 17att) in the third. Lucas Frassrand also scored on two service aces in the frame.
Klein had five more kills in the fourth. Gallas and Kobrine each added three apiece as the Trojans claimed a 25-17 win with a scorching .632 attack rate (13k, 1e, 19att). Kobrine rallied the USC offense during a CSUN comeback and served two aces and scored a kill to put the Trojans out of reach.

UP NEXT

USC hosts its annual alumni match on Saturday (Jan. 28) at Galen Center. Trojan greats return to the court for a 2 p.m. exhibition match. Next week, USC heads to State College for the Pac-12/Big Ten Challenge where it will face Penn State (Feb. 3) and Ohio State (Feb. 4) on back-to-back nights at Rec Hall.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 52-34 all-time against CSUN and won its fifth straight match against the Matadors.
The Trojans' 11 blocks and nine service aces were each season-high marks for USC.
