No. 10 USC Men's Volleyball Sweeps Matadors at ASICS Invitational

Kevin Kobrine and Simon Gallas shared team-high honors with nine kills each in the Trojans' win over CSUN
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The 10th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (1-1) secured a 3-0 sweep (25-22, 28-26, 25-20) of CSUN (0-2) in the ASICS Invitational at Robertson Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 6.

- Sr. OH Kevin Kobrine shared team-high honors with Jr. OPP Simon Gallas as both collected nine kills apiece. Kobrine hit .353 (3e, 17att) to go with two service aces, a block, and a pair of digs. Gallas hit .208 (4e, 24att) and added three blocks, three digs, and three assists.
- Jr. S Nate Tennant dished out 23 assists and had a team-high eight digs with three blocks and three kills.
- Sr. MB Kyle Paulson led all players with five blocks and added a pair of kills. Sr. MB Lucas Frassrand had four blocks (one solo) and added a pair of kills.
- For the Matadors, Kyle Hobus had a match-high 11 kills and served CSUN's only two aces. Griffin Walters had seven kills and Taylan Cook put up eight digs.
- The Trojans seized early control and created a five-point lead at 9-4 in the first set, but the Matadors tied the score at 14-all. Unfazed, the Trojans stayed ahead and finished off a 25-22 win in the opening frame behind four kills from Kobrine.
- It was CSUN's turn in the second as the Matadors claimed a five-point lead at 11-6, but the Trojans fought back to the tie the score and then took a 19-16 lead on a 3-0 run. The lead changed hands five times before USC ended the set on another 3-0 run with back-to-back kills from Kobrine and Gallas to complete a 28-26 win for a 2-0 lead in the match.
- USC led by six at several spots in the third set and topped off the sweep with a five-point victory, 25-20. Gallas and Dillon Klein each had three kills in the third and the Trojans collected three more blocks to finish with 10 on the night.
- USC concludes play at the ASICS Invitational against UC San Diego (1-1) on Saturday (Jan. 7) at 5:30 p.m. PT at Robertson Gymnasium in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Tritons beat Lincoln Memorial in five sets and were swept by No. 2-ranked UCLA in their other two matches.
- USC improved to 51-34 all-time against CSUN and has won four straight matches against the Matadors.
- The Trojans recorded their first sweep of the season. Last year, USC won 13 times in 3-0 fashion and was 13-1 in three-set matches overall.
