No. 7 USC Women’s Swimming and Diving Completes Pac-12 Desert Sweep

Troy falls to top-ranked Sun Devils during Saturday dual.
For the second consecutive day, the No. 7 USC women's swimming and diving team picked up a desert dual win, this time defeating No. 21 ASU 189-111 on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Tempe, Ariz.
Facing the top-ranked Sun Devils in enemy territory, No. 16 USC men's swimming and diving would eventually fall 208-92 to No. 1 ASU.
The Women of Troy opened the afternoon with a win in the 200y medley relay as Caroline Famous, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Vasilissa Buinaia combined to clock a 1:35.37 en route to a win.
USC freshman Krzysztof Chmielewski had another strong day of racing, winning the 1000y freestyle in 8:47.53 before later returning to claim the 500y free in 4:18.08. He'd also touch second in a stacked 200y fly event in a season best time of 1:41.20.
Trojan newcomer Minna Abraham led a 1-2-3 USC finish in the 200y freestyle, touching first in 1:43.35. Claire Tuggle was second in 1:45.26, followed by Hannah Kuechler in third in 1:46.51.
Other top performances from the Women of Troy came from Caroline Famous (first, 100y back – 51.48), Kaitlyn Dobler (first, 100y breast – 57.61, 200y breast – 2:08.55), Delgado (first, 100y fly – 52.64), Abraham (first, 200y IM – 1:57.32), and Macky Hodges (first, 200y back – 1:54.92).
Graduate transfer Buinaia led a USC 1-2-3 finish in the splash and dash, touching first in 22.35, followed by Famous (22.64) and Delgado (22.69). Buinaia would also claim the 100y freestyle in 48.16.
Hongping Li's diving squad swept all four springboard events, with Farrah Volpintesta winning women's 3-meter (284.33) and Shangfei Wang claiming the men's 3-meter event (382.20). On 1-meter, Grace Lee tallied 270.98 points to record the win, while Laurent Gosselin-Paradis earned a final score of 352.13 points to win it for Troy.
