No. 20 USC Lacrosse Survives Hofstra's Late Game Rally In 9-8 Victory

The Trojans' stood firm in the end, as their defense survived a last-second attempt to tie the game.
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - No. 20 USC Lacrosse holds on after a late-game surge from Hofstra, claiming the road matchup, 9-8, at James M. Shuart Field.

KEY PLAYERS:
- Junior Maggie Brown secured her third career hat trick and second of the season, posting three goals for the Women of Troy. Brown is becoming a go-to scorer for USC, as she started her first game of the season and now has scored 16 points in the last four games. Brown currently leads the team with 19 points and 14 goals.
- Three other Trojans claimed multiple points, as redshirt sophomore Isabelle Vitale led the squad with two assists. Junior Claudia Shevitz and sophomore Maddie Dora both netted two goals in the affair.
- Graduate transfer Emma Wightman and Dora each posted two caused turnovers. Wightman also picked up two groundballs in the outing.
- Goalie Kait Devir held the winning decision, but goalie Mia Fleming finished the game, as the backup allowed four goals and snagged four saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Trojans got off to a strong start as Shevitz found the back of the net 58 seconds into the game. USC would add two more while holding the Pride scoreless in the first quarter to make it 3-0 to start. Hofstra only managed one shot on goal and two shots throughout the first quarter.
- The Pride would end their 18:44 scoreless drought at the start of the second and manage one more at the buzzer before halftime. The Women of Troy would further their lead heading into the break (6-2), as Brown continued her tirade with two goals, as the second goal put her in the lead for points on the team for the season.
- After Hofstra secured its fourth goal to cut the lead to 6-4 at 10:55 in the third, USC removed its starting goalie, Devir, and replaced her with backup Fleming. Devir ended her day with four goals allowed and two saves.
- The Women of Troy then went on a 3-1 run, as they capped it with a Dora goal at 11:29 in the fourth.
- The Pride rallied with three straight, as the defense started to foul the opposition, and USC allowed two free position opportunities, including one during a one-down situation.
- While the penalties helped lead to a short scoring run, the defense clamped the Hofstra offense in the last :47 seconds to give the Trojans the victory.

- The Trojans are now. 101-17 all-time versus unranked opponents.
- USC is now 4-5 in New York.
- The Trojans are 6-5 in one-goal games that don't include overtime. Their last win in a one-goal game came against No. 18 Jacksonville on Feb. 18, 2022.
- USC moves to 3-0 against Hofstra with two wins in Hempstead, N.Y. The Trojans won their last matchup against the Pride with the same score as they won 9-8 on Feb. 8, 2020.
