USC Baseball Pounds Cal Poly for 16-3 Victory

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The USC baseball team scored 16 runs on 15 hits in a dominant win on the road over Cal Poly on Wednesday night, taking the non-conference matchup 16-3.
With their first road win of the year, USC moves to 8-7-1 on the season, while Cal Poly falls to 3-11.
The Trojans broke the game open early, erasing a 1-0 deficit with an eight-run second inning. The Trojans scored their eight runs on five hits and two errors, getting RBI from five different players, including a two-run double from Austin Overn.
USC would also post a four-run seventh inning as this one wasn't in doubt the rest of the way.
Six different Trojan hitters drove in runs, led by a five-RBI day from Cole Gabrielson. Gabrielson and Connor Clift both homered in the game, and Nick Lopez and Gabrielson each had three hits.
Blake Sodersten got the start and scattered six hits through 5.0 innings, giving up three runs while striking out eight and walking none. Fisher Johnson followed with two scoreless innings before giving way to Ethan Hoopingarner for the eighth and Toby Spach in the ninth.
