Dillon Klein led the Trojans with 17 kills for his 16th match in double-digit kills

PROVO, Utah – The 11th-ranked USC men's volleyball team (8-12, 1-6 MPSF) fell to seventh-ranked BYU (15-6, 5-4) in four sets, 25-21, 22-25, 25-17, 25-20, at Smith Fieldhouse on Thursday, March 30.

KEY PLAYERS

Fr. OH Dillon Klein led USC with 17 kills (5e, 28att) and hit .429 to go with five digs and a service ace. It was his 16th time in double-digit kills and his 17th time in double-digit points.
Gr. OH Kevin Kobrine added 14 kills (3e, 25att, .440) with three blocks and two digs. Kobrine logged his 11th match in double-digit kills and his 14th in double-digit points.
Sr. OPP Simon Gallas had 10 kills with two digs, three blocks and a service ace. For Gallas, it was his 11th match in double-digit kills and his 15th in double-digit points this season.
Jr. S Nate Tennant dished out 30 assists with two digs.
Sr. LIB George Dyer led the Trojans with 10 digs for his fourth match in double-digit digs.
For the Cougars, Kupono Browne led with 22 kills on .395 hitting. Miks Ramanis posted 13 kills on .440 hitting with six digs. Gavin Julien had 10 kills on .562 hitting to go with three digs, two blocks, and two service aces.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first set was tied nine times and the lead changed hands five times with the Trojans up by three at 17-14, but BYU stormed back to take a 25-21 win. USC hit .286 and got five kills from Klein and three apiece from Kobrine and Gallas.
The Trojans flew out of the gates for a 6-1 lead in the second set and led by as many as seven points in a 25-22 win to equalize. Klein, Kobrine, and Gallas each tallied four kills apiece to power the USC offense.
USC was held to a .067 hitting percentage in the third as the Cougars raced away for a 25-17 win. BYU led by as many as 11 points and had six kills from Browne as the Cougars hit .333 as a team in the frame.
BYU collected 17 kills in the fourth while hitting .652 and had a service ace to claim a 25-20 win to close out the match. Klein and Kobrine each had five more kills in the fourth set and helped the Trojans hit .400.

UP NEXT

The Trojans and the Cougars run it back for a second match on Friday (March 31). First serve is set for 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT) at Smith Fieldhouse. The match will be shown live on BYUtv.

MATCH NOTES

USC fell to 25-49 all-time against BYU.
The Trojans dropped to 2-12 in matches against AVCA ranked opponents this spring.
