No. 3 USC Beach Volleyball Tops No. 5 Tigers to Open East Meets West Invitational

The Trojans have won four straight duals
MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. – The No. 3-ranked USC beach volleyball team (14-1) returned to action after a two-week bye period to collect a 4-1 victory over No. 5 LSU (17-6) in the Trojans' first match at the East Meets West Invitational at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Friday, March 31. It was the fourth dual victory in a row for the Women of Troy as USC moves to 17-1 all-time on Manhattan Beach sand.

Played in flights, the Trojans' even-numbered pairs hit the sand first. The Tigers scored the first point of the dual, their only point, at pair No. 4 where Lara Boos and Ella Larkin defeated freshman Delaney Karl and graduate Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope, 21-12, 21-15.

The Trojans equalized with a win by their No. 2 pair of junior Delaynie Maple and senior Audrey Nourse. The duo defeated Paige Bracken and Grace Seits, 21-16, 21-15. In the second flight, USC went in front, 2-1, with a win at the bottom of the lineup as junior Olivia Bakos and freshman Gabby Walker took down Brooke Blutreich and Amber Haynes, 21-17, 21-15.
USC's No. 1 pair of junior Megan Kraft and senior Nicole Nourse delivered the clinching point on a marathon victory over Kylie DeBerg and Ellie Shank, 21-16, 28-26. In a three-setter in which each set was decided only by the requisite two points, graduate Madison Shields and freshman Madison White earned their ninth victory together on a 19-21, 22-20, 16-14 win over Reilly Allred and Hannah Brister at the No. 3 position to make the final score, 4-1, for the Trojans.

In a non-scoring exhibition match, graduate Jenna Johnson and freshman Bailey Showalter teamed up and took down Cassidy Chambers and Melia Lindner, 21-19, 21-16.Â

The Trojans are back in action at 3:30 p.m. PT for their second match at the East Meets West Invitational and will take on No. 4 Florida State.
