The Women of Troy were led by a double-double performance from Ally Batenhorst who had a match-high 16 kills

LOS ANGELES – The No. 21-ranked USC women's volleyball team (15-6, 7-4 Big Ten) collected a season sweep in a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) of crosstown rival UCLA (10-10, 4-7) at Pauley Pavilion on Halloween Thursday (Oct. 31). The Women of Troy earned their first straight set win over the Bruins since 2018 and the first road sweep over UCLA since 2015.

KEY PLAYERS

Gr. OH Ally Batenhorst led all players with 16 kills (1e) on 28 attacks to hit .538 and finished with 17.5 points on those kills and a pair of blocks (one solo). Batenhorst also posted her sixth double-double of the season (eighth career) with a team-best 10 digs.
Sr. S Mia Tuaniga put up 40 assists to go with eight digs and matched her career high with six kills (1e, 11att, .455) to finish with 8.5 points with three blocks and a service ace. Tuaniga set the Trojans to a .362 hitting rate and in the process moved into third all-time in program history with 4,121 assists; ahead of Taylor Carico (4,101 assists; 2006-08).
Fr. OPP Jadyn Livings scored 10 kills to go with two digs.
Redshirt So. OH Adonia Faumuina had seven kills (1e, 20att) and hit .300 to go with four blocks and four digs.
Jr. LIB Gala Trubint had nine digs and added six assists and one of USC's four service aces.
Redshirt Fr. MB Leah Ford had seven kills (0e) on 12 swings to hit .583 and led the Trojans with five blocks.
For the Bruins, Cheridyn Leverette led with 15 kills (7e, 45att, .178) and had five digs. Kate Reilly led the team with 10 digs. Kate Duffey put up 31 assists and had six digs in relief of starter Audrey Pak. Anna Dodson had six kills and three blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans out-hit the Bruins, .362 to .200, and had more kills (51-35), more assists (49-35), more blocks (8.5-5.0), and service aces (4-1). Both teams had 39 digs.
USC hit .302 and got six kills from Batenhorst to take set one, 25-21. Ford, Tyrah Ariail, and Livings each added three kills apiece while Tuaniga dished out 17 assists like it was grilled meat at a backyard BBQ. Batenhorst not only led the Trojans' attack, she also had five digs to pace the Trojans' floor defense. Tuaniga and Trubint each added four digs apiece to help hold the Bruins to a .238 hitting rate with 14 kills (4e) on 42 swings.
The Trojans went up, 2-0, with a 25-19 win in set two, which was closed on a 6-1 burst. USC collected 17 kills and hit .419 in the frame as Batenhorst poured in six more kills and added three digs. The Trojans racked up three blocks and held the Bruins to a .148 hitting rate with 10 kills (6e) on 27 swings. Tuaniga put up 11 more assists to move into third in USC history for career assists. Despite bring tied for the fifth time at nine-all, the Trojans' 5-1 run put USC up 14-10.
USC scored the first three points of set three and was never tied and never trailed en route to a 25-19 win to close out the sweep. The Trojans hit .387 with 16 kills—five from Livings and four from Batenhorst—and held UCLA to .194 with 11 kills (5e) on 31 attempts. The Trojans collected three more blocks and scored on a pair of service aces in the closeout set.

UP NEXT

USC has two days between matches and will host Washington (17-4, 7-4 Big Ten) at Galen Center on Sunday (Nov. 3) to open the month of November. The Huskies are on a four-match win streak and are coming off a five-set win over 10th-ranked Oregon on Wednesday.

MATCH NOTES

USC improved to 66-58 all-time against UCLA and moved to 27-25 as the road team.
The Trojans swept the season series over the Bruins for the first time since 2022.
The Women of Troy swept the Bruins for the 18th time; the first since a 3-0 win in 2018 (Sept. 19). It was USC's first 3-0 win over UCLA on the road since Sept. 23, 2015.
Tonight's win was the 1,150th in USC's program history.
