USC Men’s Volleyball Tops CUI, CSUN and UCSB in Fall Tournament Action

The Trojans hosted the USC Volleyball Fall Tournament, ended the day 3-3
LOS ANGELES – The USC men's volleyball team defeated CUI, CSUN, and UCSB and finished with a 3-3 record in the 2024 USC Men's Volleyball Fall Tournament at Galen Center Pavilion on Saturday, Nov. 2.
USC hosted a series of 24 matches featuring eight teams: CSUN, CUI, Pepperdine, Stanford, UCLA, UCSB, and Vanguard.
Playing to the best of three sets, matches kicked off at 8:30 a.m. with USC taking on CUI. The Trojans dominated early and swept the Golden Eagles, 25-18, 25-16.
In the second match, USC faced the Waves but ultimately fell short, with Pepperdine winning, 25-19, 25-15.
USC then split into two teams to compete simultaneously against UCLA and CSUN. On one court, the Trojans secured a five-point lead to take the first set against CSUN. Though the Matadors pushed for a third set, USC prevailed, 25-20, 26-24. On the other court, USC went up against crosstown rival UCLA. The Trojans battled hard, but the Bruins managed to edge them out, securing the match, 25-22, 29-27.
After a break, USC met up with Stanford for a back-and-forth showdown, but could not come up with the win. The Cardinal overpowered USC in a sweep, 25-19, 25-19.
In the final match of the day, the Trojans squared off against UCSB, pulling away in a dominant second set to close the tournament, 25-23, 25-14.

Last year, the Trojans went 13-15 in the regular season, finished sixth in the MPSF standings (3-9), and were 13th in the final AVCA Coaches Poll. In the postseason, USC advanced to the MPSF tournament semifinal where it fell to league runner-up UCLA. The Trojans earned six wins over ranked opponents and head coach Jeff Nygaard reached 100-career victories.
