The Trojans took a narrow 3-2 loss to the seventh-ranked Cardinal
HONOLULU – The No. 1-ranked USC beach volleyball team (1-1) fell, 3-2, to seventh-ranked Stanford (2-0) on Queen's Beach at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic on Thursday, Feb. 22.

The Women of Troy fell to the Cardinal for the first time in 14 meetings and dropped to 24-3 all-time on the Hawaiian Islands. The Trojans also fell to 135-15 when they are ranked No. 1 in the AVCA poll.

Stanford claimed the first dual point with a win at the No. 5 position where Maya Harvey and Clara Stowell earned a 21-17, 21-14 victory over freshmanAshley Pater and graduate Ainsley Radell. The Trojans tied the dual when senior All-Americans Megan Kraft and Delaynie Maple took down Xolani Hodel and Brooke Rockwell in straight sets, 25-23, 21-13, for their 30th win as a tandem.

The Cardinal went in front once more when Ruby Sorra and Taylor Wilson defeated twin grads Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse in three sets, 21-18, 13-21, 15-8, at the No. 2 position. USC pulled into a two-all tie with a win at the No. 3 position where graduates Maddi Kriz and Grace Seits claimed a three-set win over Chloe Hoffman and Kate Reilly, 21-10, 16-21, 15-13.

The clinching point came from court four once again as Trojan sophomores Gabby Walker and Madison White fell in a narrow three-set loss to Kelly Belardi and Ashley Vincent, 21-16, 15-21, 16-14.

Play continues on Queen's Beach on Friday (Feb. 23) when the Trojans take on fifth-ranked Loyola Marymount at 12:15 p.m. PT followed by an afternoon-dual with ninth-ranked Hawai'i at 2:45 p.m.
