No. 9 USC Women’s Tennis Continues Pac-12 Play Against Colorado, Utah

LOS ANGELES – The No. 9 ranked USC women's tennis team hits the road this weekend for a pair of conference duals against Colorado on Friday (April 5) and Utah on Sunday (April 7). Friday's match will begin at 12:30 p.m. PT/1:30 p.m. MDT, while Sunday's dual will kick off at 10 a.m. PT/11 a.m. MDT.
USC is currently 14-6 and 5-1 Pac-12 play. Currently, the Trojans sit at the top of the conference's leader board tied for first with No. 5 Stanford, No. 10 Cal and No. 14 UCLA all boasting Pac-12 records of 5-1.

RANKINGS:
The Women of Troy enter this week ranked No. 9 in the country (ITA Computerized Rankings April 2). Just a few weeks back, USC checked in at No. 5 in the polls. This week the Trojans broke their record for most weeks in the top-10 since 2016.
Currently, four Trojans appear in the national singles rankings, with sophomore Emma Charney leading USC at No. 28 and junior Grace Piper locked in the No. 56 ranking. Trojan fifth-year Eryn Cayetano sits at No. 68 and redshirt senior Snow Han claimed the No. 100 spot.
The Women of Troy also boasts two ranked duos in No. 14 Cayetano and Charney and No. 54 Parker Fry and Grace Piper.
SO FAR THIS SEASON:
The Women of Troy opened the 2024 season with a pair of home dual matches, defeating LMU (7-0) and UC Irvine (4-0) during a season-opening doubleheader on January 18.
USC then hit the road for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Knoxville, Tenn., defeating No. 21 Miami (4-2) and No. 17 Tennessee (4-2).
Following a fantastic kickoff weekend, Trojan sophomore Emma Charney was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Charney went undefeated in singles and doubles in Knoxville and delivered both clinchers.
USC traveled south on Saturday, Feb. 3, for a dual against No. 20 San Diego. The No. 16 ranked Women of Troy won three singles matches against the Toreros but ultimately fell 4-3 to USD, dropping to 4-1 on the season.
At the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, USC went 1-2 in matches, falling to then No. 1 UNC before rebounding to beat No. 21 ranked Washington. The Trojans capped their time at ITA's with a 4-2 loss to No. 6 Pepperdine.
USC bounced back on the road to wrap up February play, downing Michigan State 6-1 before upsetting No. 2 Michigan 4-1. Trojan Grace Piper was named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Player of the Week after going 4-0 in singles and doubles (combined) and clinching the Trojans match against the No. 2 Wolverines.
Following a month on the road, USC returned home to face crosstown rival UCLA on Friday, March 1, falling to the Bruins 5-2. Naomi Cheong and Eryn Cayetano were the only two Trojans to record singles wins against UCLA.
The Women of Troy rebounded on Monday, March 4 as the Trojans beat the Gauchos 6-1 at home. After winning the doubles point, USC carried momentum into singles play, winning five straight matches before redshirt senior Snow Han fell on center court to her top-75 ranked UCSB opponent.
USC opened Pac-12 play at home, going 2-0 as USC beat #25 Washington and Washington State. Against the Huskies, the Women of Troy dropped the doubles point, but would rebound to claim the match 4-1. On Saturday against the Cougars, USC won the doubles point and four matches to take the match 5-2.
The Trojans continued the hot streak beating Arizona (5-2) and Arizona State (4-0) last weekend to remain undefeated in Pac-12 play.
USC paused conference play the penultimate weekend of March, going 1-1 in nonconference play as the Trojans fell to No. 4 Pepperdine (4-0) on March 23, but rebounded the following day to down Hawaii 4-0.
The Women of Troy resumed Pac-12 play over the weekend, with USC falling to No. 5 Stanford 4-1 before rebounding to down No. 11 Cal 4-3 the following day. Against Cal, the Trojans erased a 3-1 deficit to beat the Golden Bears and remain in the hunt for a Pac-12 regular season title.
SCOUTING COLORADO
No. 72 Colorado is currently 12-4 on the season and 1-3 in conference play. The Buffaloes most recently fell to Cal 6-1 on March 22. Friday will mark their first match in nearly two weeks. No Buffaloes are ranked in singles or doubles.
SCOUTING UTAH
No. 47 Utah is 10-6 (2-3 conference), having most recently fallen to Stanford 4-0 on Sunday, March 24. Utah will face No. 14 UCLA on Friday, April 5 before hosting the Trojans on Sunday. One Ute is ranked in singles – Marcela Lopez (16-8), who recently checked in at the No. 107 spot in the rankings. The Utes do not have any ranked duos.
