USC Men’s Faces Former Pac-12 Foe to Open ITA Kickoff Weekend

The Trojans head to Tucson, Arizona, as they compete as the fourth seed in field and take on the No. 6 Arizona
LOS ANGELES – USC men's tennis packs its bags and heads to Tucson, Arizona, as it takes on the ITA Kickoff Weekend starting on Saturday, Jan. 25. The No. 4-seeded Trojans drew the top seed to open the weekend as they face a former Pac-12 squad in No. 6-ranked Arizona, that match will be held at 12:00 p.m. PT/1:00 p.m. MT.
During the early session, two-seeded Central Florida will take on third-seeded Oklahoma State at 9:00 a.m. PT/10:00 a.m. MT. The winners of Saturday's matches will compete against one another in the championship match on Sunday for a spot at the ITA National Indoor Championships in Waco, Texas, next month. Of the 56 teams competing, 14 will make it to the indoor championships.
USC opened the season with two consecutive sweeps, taking down UC Irvine, 6-0, and San Diego State, 7-0, to open dual play. The Trojans went 11-0 in singles and 4-1 in doubles. Senior Peter Makk highlighted the weekend by going 2-0 in both singles and doubles with a win against the No. 31-ranked player from UCI, Noah Zamora.
AMONGST THE FIELD
The Trojans have an extensive history with the Wildcats, with a record of 103-7, the first matchup happening in 1934. USC has dropped four consecutive matches against Arizona, with the Trojans' last win being in the 2021 Pac-12 Championship.
USC has played Oklahoma State seven times and is 7-0 since the first meeting in 1980. Meanwhile the Trojans have never faced UCF with the first possible meeting happening this weekend.
