USC Men’s Tennis Falls in First Round of ITA Kickoff Weekend

The Trojans have now dropped five consecutive matches against Arizona
TUCSON, Ariz. – USC men's tennis (2-1) dropped the ITA Kickoff Weekend first-round match against former Pac-12 foe No. 6 Arizona (5-0), 4-0, on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.
The Trojan's lone victory in the dual was from the newly paired sophomore Volodymyr Iakubenko and junior Oscar Weightman, as the rest of the squad went 0-2 in doubles and 0-4 in singles play.
Iakubenko and Weightman picked up the first win of the match as they opened doubles play with a 6-2 finish against the Wildcats Filip Gustafsson and Cole Stelse. On courts No. 1 and 3, the Trojans fell to Arizona, giving it the initial point to open the match.
Most of the success in singles play belonged to the Wildcats as they swept through, losing just two sets. USC's freshman Matteo Morazzi and Iakubenko would be the two that extended their play before both matches would go unfinished.
The Trojans will play in the consolation match against No. 3-seeded Oklahoma State at 9:00 a.m. PT/10:00 a.m. MT tomorrow in Tucson, Ariz.
