
USC’s Krisha Mahendran Named Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Week

LOS ANGLES – USC freshman Krisha Mahendran, who claimed both the singles and doubles title during her debut weekend as a Trojan, was named the Big Ten Conference's Co-Freshman of the Week on Wednesday, Oct. 1. Mahendran was selected alongside Wisconsin's Lucie Urbanova for the conference weekly honor.
The weekly award marks the first-ever conference honor for the freshman and the first this season for the Trojans.
A native of Palos Verdes, Calif., Mahendran competed at the USTA SoCal Intercollegiate Championships over the weekend, going 8-0 combined in both singles and doubles play. In singles, Mahendran reached the championship final alongside fellow USC freshman Eugenia Zozaya. The two Trojans split the singles title.
In doubles, Mahendran and her partner Jana Hossam won four-straight matches to claim the title over Nevada's Silvia Maria Costache and Marlene Foerster, 6-4 in their first appearance as a pair.
